AThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomplayer recently made the gruesome discovery that the game’s Bubbulfrog enemies appear to be made out of multiple Blupee’s fused together. That discovery makes thesedisturbing monsters sound like something fromElden Ringrather than a game from Nintendo and is definitely something players will struggle to unsee.
Nintendo releasedThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomin May to an overwhelmingly positive reception. Taking place a few years afterThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,Tiers of the Kingdomsees Ganondorf’s return and a mysterious illness speeding across Hyrule. With the Master Sword shattered and Zelda missing, Link must once more adventure across Hyrule to save the land from evil. This time, however, he has the benefit of new powers and ancient Zonai technology. The former includes the ability to manipulate physics objects and combine them into structures and vehicles.

Unfortunately, inanimate objects aren’t the only things getting stuck together, as oneTears of the Kingdomfan pointed out. “TFW Bubbulfrogs don’t even have eyes, they’re just Blupee faces mushed together,” reads the title of a post by Reddit user One_Adhesiveness_586, also known as Saborou. The post itself shows a close-up of one of the frog-like enemies, guaranteeing that anyone who didn’t see similarities before definitely will now. In fact, a closer examination might make the Bubbulfrogs just as disturbing as the title of Saborou’s post implies.
The four glowing leaves on its head are a big giveaway to the Bubbulfrogs' true nature, but not the only one that finally tipped people off. Technically,Tears of the Kingdom’s Bubbulfrogsdo, in fact, have eyes. Specifically, It has eight of them scattered around its face, all of which are the same color as a Blupee’s. However, looking closely reveals that these eyes are peering out of the faces of four Blupees, two of which are upside down. This is enough to make the Bubbulfrog go from just a slimy amphibian to a creature of nightmares.
It’s unclear where these amphibious mutants come from, though fans on theTears of the Kingdomsubreddit came up with a few potential explanations. Suggestions included that the Bubbulfrogs might be corrupted Blupees, a defense mechanism to protect the Blupees, or the result of another creature eating Blupees. Considering thatTears of the Kingdom’s Blupeesseem to be mystical creatures rather than natural ones, anything could be possible.
Regardless, Saborou’s post seems to have changed how someTears of the Kingdomplayersfeel about Bubbulfrogs. One commenter said it makes them feel less bad about killing Bubbulfrogs, having previously interpreted them as scared animals rather than hostile monsters. Then again, another commenter came away feeling bad for them, while others feel like killing the Bubbulfrogs might even be doing them a favor.
