Summary
One adventurousThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomplayer pushed the game’s building mechanics to their limits by engineering a ridiculously long aircraft that’s so massive it can’t be powered using conventional means. They subsequently took to social media to share their achievement, having done so shortly after anotherTears of the Kingdomplayer built aMandalorian-inspired starfighter.
The sheer utility value of aircraft made flying machinery among the most popular types of contraptions thatTears of the Kingdomfans have been building since the game’s mid-May debut. And while some players have so far focused on optimizing their builds by making them as simple and energy-efficient as possible, others opted to experiment with extravagant designs such asTears of the Kingdom’sKing Gleeok mechs.

The latest such feat of engineering arrived in the form of a ridiculously long plane created by Reddit user PokeyTradrrr. Their contraption incorporates 16 guard rails found inTears of the Kingdom’sConstruct Factory, 14 of which are used for the body, while the remaining two act as wings. The reason why this comically large vehicle can even get off the ground after a lot of wobbling has to do with the unique physical properties of its containing guard rail, which is the lightest known object in the game.
A barely visible but critical component of this newly shared design is the Zonai Battery placed near the airplane’s tail, immediately below its sole propeller engine. Namely,Tears of the Kingdomimposes a hard cap on how far away a given Zonai device can be from its energy source, which is usually Link’s battery strap. Since this plane goes over that limit several times over, its sole engine requires an external power source, which is why its author equipped it with an additional battery.
Though the vehicle can’t rely on Link’s energy cell reserves, its singular propeller isn’t particularly power-hungry, allowing this ridiculously long airplane to keep flying for a fairly long time. PokeyTradrrr also created an alternative version of this contraption that uses two Zonai Fans in place of a propeller and is short enough to work without an external battery, but sacrifices mobility due to its lack of wings and horizontal momentum.
Comically long planes are far from the only application of the guard rail that the fandom has conjured up to date. Not long after the part’s discovery, another player managed to use this unique component toimprove onTears of the Kingdom’sclassic hoverbike design. The latest update to the game coincided with the discovery of the guard rail, so there’s still a chance that Nintendo patches out its unique properties in the future.
