When Nintendo first announced thatThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild(then an untitled Zelda game) would beopen world, many players didn’t know what to expect. Now that the game is available for release, however, they have found that the open world Zelda was even more open than most assumed. For example, the game has been out for over a month now, and players are still finding new ways to interact with the game’s mechanics, and to defeat its unique enemies.
This week, oneZelda: Breath of the Wildplayer showed how the Magnesis ability can create new weapons, some of which are more powerful than any sword, spear, or club. As can be seen in the GIF below, one player uses Magnesis and a bookshelf to take out a Lynel, one of the hardest enemies inThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

For those that have yet to playZelda: Breath of the Wild, Lynels are part lion, part man, and part man. They are typically found roaming the open world of the game, and are no easy task to defeat. Eventually, as players progress, the Lynel fights will become easier thanks to better weapons and armor upgrades, but thinking about taking on one without any clothes on and with only three hearts is ill-advised.
That is, unless the player has a bookshelf at their disposal. It’s unclear why magnetized items tend to do so much damage to enemies, but it’s something that we noticed in ourBreath of the Wildplaythrough as well. With weapons breaking so often, it’s actually useful to take certain items, magnetize them, and use them to take out enemies. Players that are struggling in the Eventide Island area may want to keep this in mind. No doubt this isn’t the last impressive thing players will see done inZelda: Breath of the Wild, as people continue to toy around with the world Nintendo has created. Just this week, for example, one player attempted a100%Zeldarunto see how long it would take, and 49 hours later had his answer. Obviously, some players will be able to cut that time down, but it will be interesting to see how many follow-up attempts are made.
Moreover, we can’t wait to see what new tricks players discoverusing Magnesis and Stasisin order to cut down time in speed runs or just to be flashy. Bookshelves aren’t very plentiful in the game, but it might be smart to keep an eye out for them.
