Ubisoft’s free-to-play arena shooter,XDefiant, features five playable factions with specialized active, passive, and ultimate abilities. There’s a faction for almost every playstyle, and for those who like playing Ana inOverwatch 2, Sage inValorant, or Lifeline inApex Legends;XDefiant’s Libertad is the way to go.
The factions inXDefiantcome from the publisher’s different game franchises. TheLibertad is a rebel group from FarCry 6which offers support-oriented abilities, like burst healing and health regeneration. Such skills are invaluable to a team’s success in first-person shooters, where rounds are often decided by how many players are alive in each team.

The Libertad’s skill set is all about healing, as evidenced by its passive trait: Espiritu de Libertad, which continuously regenerates the health of the player and nearby allies. Its El Remedio ability is a canister of revitalizing gas that heals friendlies until it’s destroyed or recalled. The Libertad’s BioVida Boost skill works like Espiritu de Libertad, but it boosts HP regeneration and total health in pulses. Finally, this faction’s ultra ability, Medico Supremo, provides a substantial healing boost to allies for a limited time.
Players cancreate their own loadout inXDefiant, so Libertad players have access to the same deadly weapons as other factions. This class' healing skills don’t require much focus to pull off, too. Libertad’s passive trait continuously heals allies, like Lucio’s healing aura in theOverwatchfranchise, while its El Remedio deployable automatically heals friendlies within its radius. These set-it-and-forget-it skills let Libertad players take on more offensive tasks like trading kills and capturing objectives.
According toXDefiant’s website, the Libertad is a faction of freedom fighters who want to free their Caribbean nation called Yara from an oppressive regime. They are excellent medics because of the BioVida healing therapies they’ve perfected on the battlefield. While this description is accurate and adequate for a crossover game likeXDefiant, it doesn’t tell the whole story.
In the events ofFar Cry 6, the player character, Dani Rojas has the choice to join the Libertad. This guerilla movement wants to liberate the masses from the fascist government of Antonio Castillo. To achieve this goal, Rojas must convince theregional bandit leaders of Yarato unite against the oppressive regime.
The BioVida Boost skill references a pharmaceutical company owned by Castillo’s government. BioVida is working on an experimental drug called Viviro, which the company claims is the cure for cancer. Antonio plans to sell this to other countries, which will bring in large sums of cash, not for the people, but for his own pockets. Viviro comes from atobacco crop that’s mixed with dangerous chemicals. Biovida forces its workers to propagate this plant without proper protective equipment, causing some to die or develop serious illnesses. This is one of the many atrocities that the Castillo regime committed, and it prompted the Libertad to band together in an armed struggle against the government. Knowing all this makes the BioVida Boost ability seem out of place, as it’s named after the corrupt company of the faction’s most formidable enemy.
The Libertad has the potential to provide a lot of value to anXDefiantsquad, as the faction can provide massive amounts of healing over time. Plus, its passive healing abilities let the player go on the attack, an uncommon trait for support roles in other games. To top it all off, the Libertad has one of the most interesting and engaging backstories in the current lineup. As such, it shouldn’t be surprising to see multiple players spreading the spirit of liberation in a single match.
