With the release of the Fractures in Time update for Blizzard’s hit MMORPGWorld of Warcraftnow less than a month away, the developer has revealed new details about what players can expect from the highly anticipated update. Blending the light-hearted fantasy of its popular MMORPG with one of the developer’s decidedly darker properties, last week Blizzard began aWorld of Warcraftcrossover event withDiablo 4to celebrate the launch of the demon-slaying series’ fourth entry.Originally released in 2004,World of Warcrafthas grown over the years to become the gold standard of MMORPGs in the eyes of many players. While some were initially skeptical about the thought of Blizzard adapting its popularWarcraftfranchise of real-time strategy games into an MMO,World of Warcrafthas gone on to establish many of the gameplay mechanics that have become staples of the genre. Not content with coasting on its past successes, Blizzard has released numerous expansions and updates forWorld of Warcraftover the years that have provided a steady stream of new content for players. In a nod to the MMORPG’s roots, the recentPatch 10.1.5 forWorld of Warcraftbrought back an old villainfrom the franchise’s past for a cameo appearance in a new mission.RELATED:World of Warcraft Shows Off New Warlock Demon Pet CustomizationsIn a new post from the officialWorld of WarcraftTwitter account Blizzard has revealed some of the new features that will be coming to the game with the arrival of the Fractures in Time update on July 11. As part of the new update, which tasks players with dealing with mysterious Time Rifts that have appeared throughout the Dragon Isles, Blizzard is adding an impressive amount of new content toWorld of Warcraft. Warlocks and Evokers will both see some changes to their class, with the former receiving new customization options and the latter gaining access to the new Augmentation specialization, while new Time Rift events and the Kalimdor Dragonriding Cup will be added to the game. The most exciting news for many players, though, is likely to be the arrival of a new mega-dungeon toWorld of Warcraft.

Arguably the largest addition toWorld of Warcraftwith the Fractures in Time update is the new Dawn of the Infinite Mega-Dungeon. This Mythic-only dungeon serves as the centerpiece of the new content, charging players with stopping the Infinite Dragonflight and fixing Azeroth’s timeline. Following a deluge of negative feedback from players, Blizzard announced earlier this month that it wasremoving a controversial quest fromWorld of Warcraft’s Fractures in Time update ahead of launch.

With a new mega-dungeon to explore and new character customization options,World of Warcraftfans are in for a treat when Fractures in Time releases on July 11. And given the temporal shenanigans at the center of the update’s story, gamers should probably expect to see a slew of time-travel-themedWorld of Warcraftmemesappearing shortly thereafter.

World of Warcraftis available now for PC.
