Summary

World of Warcraft: Dragonflightis slowly setting up its finale, and though Iridikron has made his exit following the Dawn of the Infinite megadungeon, the latest cinematic featuring Fyrakk and Vyranoth all but confirm the setting of the upcoming patch. Following the disappointingvillain arc of the Jailer inShadowlands, the Primal Incarnates have been a breath of fresh air forWorld of Warcraftfans. They have strong personalities, concise goals, and don’t underestimate the player characters. These ancient dragons are united in their hatred for the Titans, and seek to undo the damage that the Pantheon caused to Azeroth.

However, one of the more interesting reveals over the course ofDragonflight’s story is that their values, methods, and principles couldn’t be further apart. Raszageth played the role of a vengeful harbinger set on freeing her siblings during the Vault of the Incarnates raid, and with her death, theoverarching villains ofDragonflightwere thrust into the spotlight. Fyrakk was the shining star of the Embers of Neltharion patch, and his appearance in the Fury Incarnate cinematic teases not just his confrontation with the heroes of Azeroth, but also with his sibling Vyranoth.

The scene introduces an increasingly unhinged Fyrakk on his hunt for the new World Tree, determined to absorb the immense power blooming within its heart. After threatening to burn a defeated Gerithus, the grandson of Ysera, Vyranoth attempts to quench her insidious brother’s fury as the two Primal Incarnates become locked in a duel. Fyrakk stands down, and the Shadowflame burning within him cools, but not before confirming whereWorld of Warcraft’s Patch 10.2will take place: within the fan-favorite Emerald Dream.

The Emerald Dream inWorld of Warcraftwas often the target of rumors, speculations, and even leaks since the early days. Players hoped for an expansion pack set in this mystical zone, and though it never materialized,Legion’s storyline gave the Emerald Dream a much-needed time in the spotlight through the Val’sharah zone, the Druid Order Hall storyline, as well as the Emerald Nightmare raid. Now, it’s set to take the stage once again inDragonflight, as players will have to stop Fyrakk from setting the Emerald Dream ablaze.

Curiously, many fans seem to believe that it also sets up a redemption arc for Vyranoth, who may end up helping the players in their encounter with Fyrakk in the upcoming raid. While the community hopes that Blizzard will not kill off a character as interesting as Vyranoth is turning out to be, the developers may opt to keep her as a principled anti-villain figure to contrast the moretraditionalWorld of Warcraftantagonistin Iridikron. Ultimately, fans will have to remain patient for the next chapter ofDragonflight’s story, as Patch 10.2 is slated to release in late 2023.
