Call of Duty: VanguardZombies had a rough launch to say the least, with longtime players finding little to appreciate about the new take on the mode. Its biggest issue was that it wasmissing many classic Zombies features, ranging from side easter eggs and hidden music to something as basic as server pause.
Indeed, server pause is a feature thatCall of Duty: VanguardZombies fans expected to see on day one, as it was seen in the previous iterations of the mode. However, this expected mechanic was nowhere to be found at launch, with many venting their frustration and stating that they would not play the new Zombies mode until it was added. While it has finally been introduced, fans were not rewarded for their patience, as many feel that it is severely lacking like the game’s other Zombies content.

What Call of Duty: Vanguard’s Server Pause Does Wrong
While the comments fromTreyarchabout why server pause was not ready on day one made sense, as the developer needed to grow accustomed to a new engine with a different approach to its servers, fans were stuck waiting a long time for the quality-of-life feature. As such, it was expected to work well and be fully functional when it was added, though that is not the case. As shown by posts from Redditors like Penguinsrockgr8, the server pause that was added is problematic.
The biggest issue with this iteration of server pause is that it only keeps solo matches stopped for two hours. Considering that server pause’s main purpose for those playing solo is toreach high rounds, this is a massive downside. While players can now pause to use the restroom, those hoping to pause a game and get some sleep before continuing to push for a spot on the leaderboards are out of luck.
Unfortunately, this is not the only issueCall of DutyZombies fanshave with the long-requested server pause. Not only are players kicked if they stay paused for over 2 hours, but this feature only works for those playing alone. Considering thatCall of DutyZombies is a co-op mode, this is hugely disappointing, as one of the best changes that were made in recent years is that the host could pause the game so a teammate can take a break.
Unfortunately, likeTerra Maledicta’s main quest, server pause is yet another example of a heavily requestedCall of Duty: VanguardZombies feature letting gamers down once it arrives. While there are still several Seasons left inVanguard’s life cycle, many Zombies fans are already looking toward the next iteration of the mode and what it could bring. For those still playingVanguard, though, hopefully server pause is improved over time now that the base functionality is in place.
Call of Duty: Vanguardis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
