The Nintendo Switch Lite was initially released last September and is marketed as a pure handheld console. Shortly after its release, the Switch Lite proved to be a commercial successgiven that it’s sold around two million units in a span of two months. The success of the Switch Lite surprised many in the video game industry given that the console is technically a Switch that can’t “switch.” However, Nintendo releasing a cheaper version of its console without its defining feature is not new for the company. It is worth remembering that the company received the same response when it released the Nintendo 2DS, which is technically a 3DS without 3D capabilities.

Nonetheless, the Switch Lite proved to be a successful business venture for the Japanese gaming giant. In a series of tweets released by a Wall Street Journal reporter last year, Nintendo is looking into the possibility ofbringing more 3DS games to the Switch Liteto cement the console’s appeal as a purely handheld device. The journalist also claimed that Nintendo is encouraging the release ofPokemon3DS games to the Switch Lite to get things started.

As for the long-rumored pro version of the Nintendo Switch, the company confirmed earlier this year that it hasno plans to release a new versionof its flagship console for 2020. This announcement disappointed Nintendo fans who are expecting a beefier Switch console that would compete with Sony and Microsoft’s upcoming next-generation systems. Instead, Nintendo will focus on pushing the two existing models of the Switch and wanted to remain transparent instead of keeping its fanbase guessing.

TheNintendo Switch LiteCoral Edition will launch in Japan first on March 20 and will release worldwide on June 22, 2025.
