A mod forUltimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3adds in two fan favorite characters from both the Marvel and Capcom sides of the fanbase as playable characters. The first of these is Gwen Stacy, under her moniker as Spider-Woman, which is more commonly referred to as Spider-Gwen. Along with appearances in movies and games, fans havemodded Spider-Gwen into games likeMarvel’s Spider-Man, and nowUltimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.Modders have been doing plenty of custom character mods after breaking through the game’s built-in limitations. The most ambitious of these mods is theUltimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3palette swap mod. As of this writing, it adds 24 unique characters into the game by utilizing the costume slots of other characters and turning them into different characters. This includes creating characters like Psylocke, Ultron, Cammy, and more with custom-built move sets. The latest update is no different, adding the aforementioned Spider-Gwen and Asura fromAsura’s Wrath.RELATED:Capcom Hosting Survey for Fan FeedbackSpider-Gwen’s movesetin this mod takes cues from both her normal abilities as the Ghost Spider, evidenced by her using webs and fast-paced marital arts to strike at her enemies, along with the Venom symbiote re-introduced during the Gwenom arc of comics in 2021. This includes the ability to transform into her venomized form, along with being able to summon Venom-themed tendrils from the ground. This mod reuses the voice clips from Spider-Gwen’s playable appearance inMarvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order.
The other character introduced in tabs' latest update is Asura fromAsura’s Wrath, with much of his move set taking inspiration from that game. This includes all of Asura’s special moves, like his Berserker form, his six-armed Vajra state, and his Level 3 Hyper Combo, which has the character slowly walk up to the opponent before punching them across the room.
This mod forUltimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3is particularly impressive since these characters are based on other playable slots in the normal roster, where Spider-Gwen stems from Spider-Man’s moveset, while Asura used Iron Man’s slot as a base. This mod has been showcased on other fighting game related YouTube channels such as Maximillian Dood, along with players hosting tournaments allowing these custom characters.
