As popular asTwitchis, being the biggest platform for gamers to broadcast their playthroughs and chat with like-minded individuals, there have been numerous contentious shenanigans over the years. TheAmazon-owned website has been marred in controversies, including some questionable use of its infamous “ban hammer” as well as last year’s hate raid scandal. Now, it seems as though there are some issues of a monetary concern as a number of streamers report that they’ve been unable to withdraw their payments.
According to a recent report, someTwitchcontent creators from the Middle East have been almost reduced to pleading with the website, which has blocked payments. At the time of writing, there doesn’t seem to be any discernible reason as to why this has happened, though it could be related to a discrepancy regarding “certain tax information” that’s been provided, but outside that, it’s not clear as to what’s going on, exactly. As can be imagined, streamers affected are unhappy, even a little concerned about their income.

User POWR OSAMAH went on to say that it’s “unfair” that it has seemingly “singled out” people in the Middle East and blocked payments. OSAMAH goes on to say that what they do on the platform is their main job, and that not being paid could potentially lead them to being homeless. While it’s not known how much these streamers make, it’s possible forTwitch broadcasters to make a living through streaming income, so the loss of it is quite serious.
This is also not the first time something like this has happened. Late last year,Bbjess said Twitch owed her thousands of dollars, for an undisclosed reason at the time the story broke, and that she wasn’t the only streamer who wasn’t being paid. The company has yet to respond to these recent developments, but another streamer, who goes by ohmyTalal, has said that nobody has been notified by the platform, and that blocking all users in the region is suspicious.
It seems the company is followed by a series of controversies that are marring its reputation. TheTwitch “hate raids” that happened mid-2021lead to a series of backlashes from the community, which included a 24-hour walkout from the site, and the company implementing new safety measures. Given the severity of what’s going on, it can only be hoped that someone fromTwitchwill come forward with an explanation and eventually sort it all out.
