Tales from the Borderlandssurprisingly provided some of the best narratives and content that the Telltale formula of games had to offer during their heyday. The slower-paced and story-driven nature of the game gave a glimpse into a more compelling and intimate side of the otherwise high-octane and whackyuniverse of theBorderlandsfranchise.
The palpable success and positive critical reception thatTales from the Borderlandsreceived left fans begging for a sequel, and it’s clear that the first game left plenty of room for one. Many pertinent questions were unanswered in relation to the wider plot and important character arcs. Tales from the Borderlands 2 Revealed
The firstTales from the Borderlandscame in the form of five episodic releases between 2014 and 2015. Originally published by Telltale Games, these episodes followed its synonymous point-and-click style and interactive narrative, while being set in the zany cell-shaded world of theBorderlandsfranchise. The game saw players take control ofRhys, a success-hungry employee of the militaristic Hyperion corporation, as well as the con-artist Fiona, with the two forming an unlikely alliance.
A sequel toTales from the Borderlandswas announced recently atGearbox’s PAX East showcase, much to the surprised excitement of long-term fans of the widerBorderlandsfranchise. One major difference between the original episodes and this newly announced sequel is that the latter will not be developed by Telltale, instead being developed in-house by Gearbox Software.

Although this could potentially worry fans, the sequel is likely to maintain the same point-and-click focus and humor-filled narrative, withGearbox obviously being familiar with theBorderlandsfranchise. Slated for a 2022 release date, it has also been revealed that the sequel will showcase a fresh cast of characters that did not feature in the firstTales from the Borderlands. That being said, there is still the potential for questions surrounding the cast of the first game to be answered.
Tales From the Borderlands 2: Rhys and Fiona’s Whereabouts
One of the most glaring questions that many fans had after beatingTales from the Borderlandsconcerns both Rhys and Fiona, the aforementioned dual protagonists of the game. At the end of the original game’s final episode, both Rhys and Fiona find themselves alone without their colorful cast of supporting characters in the fabled Vault of the Traveler.
With both Rhys and Fiona deciding to open the loot chest within this vault at the same time, the episode ends with both protagonists seemingly being teleported away to an undisclosed location, marking theending ofTales from the Borderlands. This textbook cliffhanger ending has predictably been a point of contention amongst the game’s fanbase over the years, with many theorizing and debating over the meaning of the teleportation, as well as the location in which they were sent.
The main premise of the Vault is that it is guarded by the Traveler, who can teleport itself and the Vault seemingly anywhere across the universe to maintain thesecrecy of theBorderlandsVault’s location. Some have theorized that this teleportation ability is shared by the Vault itself, with the loot within the Vault actually being the one-time ability to teleport to the location one’s heart desires most. With both Rhys and Fiona activating the loot at the same time, it is of extreme interest as to what the middle ground location their combined desires would produce, if this were true. With how mysterious of a question this is, many fans would rejoice at even a partial explanation as to what the location is in the upcoming sequel toTales from the Borderlands.
