It’s been over two years since the season 2 finale ofThe Mandalorian, and season 3 is nearly ready to go. In the meantime, Giancarlo Esposito has updated fans about his character, Moff Gideon, and has cautioned them not to count him out of the fight just yet.
The Mandalorianwas a huge success for the fledgling Disney Plus and inspired severalStar WarsTV shows in its wake,such as the upcomingAhsoka.Before its release, it was considered something of an impossibility to bringStar Warsto the small screen, as the property was simply too expensive to be feasible. Ultimately, the show did manage to succeed and introduced fans to a variety of new characters like the villainous Moff Gideon.

In a new interview withTV Line, Esposito dropped some new info about Moff Gideon inThe Mandalorianseason 3. “I mean, I always want more Moff Gideon — I’ve got to be honest with you! But, you know, you’re going to get a good amount of Moff Gideon," Esposito said. “You always want to see the phoenix rise from the ashes. Or, you want to see a nefarious villain rise from the ashes. And believe me, hewill.”
InThe Mandalorianseason 2 finale,Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katanteamed up with Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) to rescue Grogu from Moff Gideon’s clutches. Din ended up defeating Moff Gideon, who was then imprisoned by the New Republic. Since Moff Gideon also wielded the Darksaber, Din became the new master of the lightsaber.
According to rumors, Moff Gideon will wear anew set of armor inThe Mandalorianseason 3. Reportedly, the Moff will be wearing armor akin to Death Watch, complete with Darth Maul-like horns. This could mean he’ll be taking up the Mandalorian way next season, and perhaps his “rise from the ashes” will involve a prison break orchestrated by someone in the group.
Fans canexpect more Moff Gideon inThe Mandalorianseason 3, but the details of his return leave many questions that need to be answered. How will Gideon rise from the ashes? Who will break him out of prison? Will he regroup with a fledgling First Order or abandon his Imperial past in favor of some new conquest?
The Mandalorianseason 3 is out on July 12, 2025, only on Disney Plus.
