Dead by Daylightis an asymmetrical multiplayer horror game wherein four Survivors cooperate in hopes of escaping from a Killer. First released in 2016, the game has gone on to add plenty of different playable characters. The Killers, in particular, come from a wide range of backgrounds, so players can experience being anything from a traditional slasher to a vengeful spirit. Now, knowing the premise ofDead by Daylight, many were surprised to learn of the upcomingHooked on You.
Hooked on Youis a spinoff game ofDead by Daylight. More specifically, it’s a dating sim that features four of the playable Killers in the main game. As strange as that sounds, the upcoming title is great for promoting the brand.

The Premise of Hooked on You
Hooked on You: A Dead by Daylight Dating Simtakes place on Murderer’s Island, a tropical getaway with gorgeous beaches and a luxurious resort. It’s the furthest thing from the dark and dreary Realms ofDead by Daylight. The only problem is that the player character doesn’t remember how they got on the island in the first place. Plus, there are four intimidating beachgoers who are on the island as well.
The four main Killers ofHooked on Youare the Trapper, the Huntress, the Wraith, and the Spirit. Compared to their terrifying depictions inDead by Daylight, their sprites in the dating sim are a lot less scary, and players can romance each of them through the “choice-driven dating sim.” However, the game hints that things could quickly turn sour as these romance options are, after all, stillKillers inDead by Daylight.
ThoughHooked on Youis definitely an odd choice for a spinoff series, it’s a great way of promoting the main gameandgiving the existing playerbase some fan service. According to Behaviour Interactive’s Head of Partnerships, Mathieu Côté, the team has been aware of all theDead by Daylightfanficsfor some time now — meaning the company knows there’s a market forHooked on You. So, really, the dating sim angle was the perfect course of action.
The icing on the cake is thatHooked on Youis being developed by Psyop. The multimedia studio is most known in the gaming sphere forthe KFC dating sim:I Love You, Colonel Sanders! A Finger Lickin’ Good Dating Simulator. The humorous (and free) title lets players romance the Colonel, himself, while also meeting a whole cast of eccentric characters. That’s a pretty good indication thatHooked on Youis going to turn out just right — fun, without taking itself too seriously.
So, it seems theDead by Daylightdating sim is shaping up to be one of the strangest releases of the year. But it’s also one of the most awaited, especially for fangirls and fanboys of the featured Killers. In fact, there’s already been an outpouring of fan art on Twitter, with a majority of pieces being on Rin Yamaoka as well asDead by DaylightSurvivorsDwight and Claudette.
IfHooked on Youdoes well on release, then theDead by Daylightfan base should expect more Killers to show up on Murderer’s Island. It could also mean the release of newKiller skins based on the designs inHooked on You. The spin-off dating sim is just an all-around smart idea, as it gives the fans what they want while also reaching out to a completely new demographic. So long as the game itself is well-made, it’s sure to sell well.
Hooked on You: A Dead by Daylight Dating Simis currently scheduled to release this summer on Steam for PC.
