E3 2019 saw the announcement of two new DLC characters forSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateincluding theDragon QuestHero and Xbox’s Banjo Kazooie. But sometimesSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatefans have to take things into their own hands to play their favorite characters. InfamousSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatemodder Demonslayerx8 continues to do just that, with his latest mod project being none other than Seto Kaiba from the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise.

As with all of their mods, Demonslayer8’s Kaiba mod is a model-only edit. That means that the mod changes an existingSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatecharacter to look like the new character, but their animations and abilities are otherwise entirely the same. In Kaiba’s case, Demonslayer8 modded thePersona 5Joker DLCcharacter to become Kaiba. It’s fairly easy to recognize Joker’s Persona being summoned, though Kaiba fans can just imagine it to be a  special card ability.

For those unfamiliar, Seto Kaiba is one of the main characters in theYu-Gi-Oh! anime, though he’s somewhat of an anti-hero given his selfish and arrogant nature. He’s incredibly talented at games such as chess, as well as video games, which lend to his talent at the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters card game. He’s also an exceptional businessman, due to his shrewd character and intelligence. He’s also impressively popular in the Yu-Gi-Oh! fanbase, which is perhaps why he was officially added as a DLC fighter in theJump Forcefighting game. NowSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateplayers can also join in the fun.

Demonslayer8’s modding skills continue to impress, though that’s likely to be expected given that he’s running a Patreon account to support his character mods. Some of his other recent character additions forSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateinclude Deku fromMy Hero Academia,Halo’s Master Chief, Marvel superhero Nova, and of course the infamous Shaggy mod born from theMortal Kombat 11meme to get him added to the roster.

It’s almost surprising that officialDLC charactersaren’t being added at a faster rate by Nintendo, given the clear interest in new fighters. With more than six months since theSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatelaunch and only two new characters (those being Joker and Piranha Plant) available, Nintendo clearly doesn’t seem to be meeting demand.

As for the process of enabling mods on the Nintendo Switch in order to use character models like Kaiba inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, that’s a journey every Switch owner has to make on their own. It’s also something that isn’t recommended, as it’s very complicated and perhaps also not legal. However, there’s nothing wrong with enjoying the mod purely through video.
