Super Crooksis based on a comic book series of the same name bycomic legend Mark Millarthat ran for four issues in 2012. Millar is known for series likeUltimate Fantastic FourandKingsman: The Secret Service, among many others. Both theSuper Crookscomic book and the upcoming anime adaptation feature Johnny Bolt, a man who has gotten through his life by the skin of his teeth by stealing every time he needs money. Bolt is caught up in the cycle of theft where every heist is “his last.” Bolt often has a crew with him for large jobs and this time the heist will be his last (he swears).
The Super Crookstrailer is rampant withspy thriller referencesat every turn. First, the trailer opens with Johnny Bolt being freed from prison, where he promises to be a responsible citizen. Once he is out, however, he can’t control his thirst for another heist, especially given how easy his superpowers make it. The trailer walks the audience through the crew members and some details surrounding the heist, which the characters argue must be nothing short of “legendary.” Viewers are then introduced to The Gladiator, a disgraced and forgotten hero, alongside an old supervillain named The Heat and Bolt’s ex-girlfriend Kasey, among others.
The iconic BONES studio, which has producedanime shows likeMy Hero Academia, will be producing the new series. Motonobu Hori, known forBeck, is directing the show withErgo Proxyscreenwriter Dai Sato writing the script.Super Crookswill consist of thirteen episodes that are thirty minutes long.
Super Crookshas an incredible team behind the project and it is exciting to have another adaptation of Millar’s creative genius go to the screen. Heists are often topics for films and TV shows but come rarely in anime series. Will Bolt’s incredible final heist actually be his last?
