John Boyega played a pivotal role in the newStar Warstrilogy. While he believes all three were quality films, he’s formed his opinions about them. While not calling the movie bad, he believes thatThe Last Jediis the worst in the trilogy.Boyega was asked how he would rank the three films. While he believes they’re all good films, Boyega ranked them in the following order:Star Wars: The Force Awakens, thenStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and finally,Star Wars: The Last Jedi.RELATED:Pedro Pascal Supports One Big Change In The MandalorianOn an episode of “Truth or Dab: Rapid Fire” onFirst We Feast’s Twitter account, Boyega gives his full thoughts on theStar Warssequel trilogy while ranking the movies. “‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens' is most definitely the best. Second for me comes ‘Star Wars 9 (The Rise of Skywalker).’ And the worst, in the most respectful sense, ‘Episode 8 (The Last Jedi).’ But they’re all lovely.” Boyega did not elaborate further on his thoughts about the trilogy outside his rankings.

Most of Boyega’s screen time as Finn inThe Last Jediis spent hanging around one of the films' newer (and highly discussed) characters, Rose Tico, as they work together to do their part in taking down The First Order. This is a major contrast from Finn’s role in the other two movies, where Finn spent most of his time with the new trilogy’smain characters like Reyand Poe while also being alongside the classic characters from the original trilogy, Han Solo and CPO. Perhaps Boyega liked being more involved in the A-Plot in those movies than being in the B-Plot, regardless of how the films turned out.

The Last Jediwas met with controversy by the fans upon its release in 2017. There may not be a film in cinema history with the level of divisiveness among its fanbase asThe Last Jedi. The fans who loved it praised the film for taking the risks that it did, venturing into new territories not previously explored in previousStar Warsstories. However, those who hated it pointed to how the film’s choices tochange the original characters like Luke Skywalkerand subvert expectations only made it worse. Maybe the divisiveness wouldn’t have been as strong had Lucasfilm stuck with one director for all three movies, but hindsight is 20/20.

The shame about Boyega’s character Finn is that he ultimately ended up a character with so much wasted potential after a promising start inThe Force Awakens. He started as a stormtrooper who seemingly had a change of heart after seeing the harsh reality of war upfront, leading to his defection to The Resistance. Sadly, they don’t delve into Finn’s motivations or expand on his arc as the trilogy progressed, which was even more frustrating since Rey and Kylo Ren became much more fleshed out in that same period. Despite that,Boyega still thinks highly of the newStar Warstrilogy, despite the franchise failing to utilize his acting talent.
