Starfield’s Vanguard Faction

AsStarfield’s launch date approaches, Bethesda has been more and more open about its features and gameplay and has provided a number of in-depth looks at the game. This has helped to fan the flames of player excitement, but it’s also provided a better overview of the original world that the developer will be introducing and the things that gamers will be able to do within it. Alongside a detailed character creator, the ability to join factions similar tothe system in place inThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimis an exciting opportunity for gamers to better shape their character and their personal narrative.

One of the factions that Bethesda has revealed so far is Vanguard, the military branch of the United Colonies. The United Colonies is one of the game’s larger groups, and it aims to colonize other planets and increase its control over the slightly less regimented areas of The Settled Systems. Vanguard will presumably be the part of this faction that actively metes out its ideology, fights on the front lines to ensure its dominance, and rubs up against some of the factions that prefer their freedom and a lot less oversight like the Freestar Collective. For players wanting to associate with Vanguard and its parent organization early on, they can choose the “United Colonies Native” backstory.

In addition to the Vanguard faction,Starfieldhas a few different options for players wanting to join the various groups in the game. These range from the more militaristic such as Vanguard to thepirate-adjacent Crimson Fleet. When it comes toStarfield’s marketing and periodic reveals of its various groups, the space exploration organization Constellation has definitely been a main focus.

Another major group is the United Colonies, which is the most established military and political faction in the game and has a number of offshoots in addition to Vanguard like MAST (Military, Administrative and Scientific Triumvirate) and SysDef. TheFreestar Collective is another main governmental factionthat prefers frontier living on the edges of settled space and has an uneasy peace with the United Colonies after a bitter war decades earlier. More corporate factions include Ryujin Industries and Xenofresh Corporation, which focus on profit and ambition rather than interstellar exploration. Some of the fringe groups include the troublesome Crimson Fleet who frequently raid other ships and engage in some less-than-legal activities, providing players with plenty of options when it comes to who they want to be in this excitingly diverse new world.
