For its first project, Frost Giant Studios announcedStormgate, a new real-time strategy game that seeks to be a spiritual successor to some of Blizzard’s biggest titles. Now, players interested in trying outStormgatecan do so right now. From now until February 12, fans can try outStormgateas a part of Steam Next Fest.Both of the current factions inStormgate, the Terran-esque Human Vanguard and theDiablo-inspired Infernal Host, can be playtested, with both 1v1 PvP matches and 3-player co-op games vs. AI opponents available.Stormgateitself is going to be free-to-play, so this open beta test can likewise be enjoyed at no cost.
When is the Stormgate Open Beta?
In addition to the Human Vanguard and the Infernal Host,Stormgateis going to have at least one additional faction in the future. However, beyond confirming its existence, little is known about this mysterious group so far. That said, the recent teaserStormgateshared for it showed both a goat and a chicken for a brief moment. This could be a hint that the third faction might involve nature or beasts, similar totheWarcraft 3Night Elves, but it is just as likely to be something entirely different.
Stormgate’s Kickstarter was the most successful video game campaign on the crowdfunding site in 2023. The backing period recently ended, with $2,380,701 being raised by 28,143 fans, blasting through all the game’s stretch goals. The RTS genre may have fallen by the wayside over the years, but if this stellar campaign is any indication, the demand for it is still quite strong.
