Star Wars: The Old Republicwas released before the franchise’s acquistion by Disney, but is still alive and kicking to this day. In an unforeseen move, BioWare has released a new 4K remaster of oneStar Wars: The Old Republic’s original trailers.
It may be hard to believe butStar Wars: The Old Republicis celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. The successful MMORPG expanded both the mythos and gameplay ofStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republicgames, allowing players to create theirown character from Jedi to bounty hunter to Sith, and experience a galaxy far, far away like never before. In the greater scale of the franchise,The Old Republicsits in a strange place, being one of the last games released prior to Disney’s acquisition ofStar Wars, and is packed to the brim with lore and content that has been canonized to various extents. BioWare announced as part of theThe Old Republiccelebration that a new expansion titledLegacy of the Sithis on the way.

BioWare has released a 4K remaster of theDeceivedcinematic trailer forStar Wars: The Old Republic. The trailer was created by Blur Studio and released originally on July 19, 2025, over two years beforeThe Old Republicwould finally launch. In the trailer,Darth Malgus—a highly popular, yet currently non-canon Sith lord—assaults the Jedi temple on Coruscant, crashing a ship full of Sith warriors into the temple, leading to a beautiful yet chaotic clash between the dark and the light. At the time, with theStar Warsfilms having been concluded, this trailer provided seriousStar Warsspectacle that had not been seen in years.
It is in part of its work on theseThe Old Republictrailers that Blur Studio is as well-recognized as it is today.Decievedholds up to this day visually with well-realized models and environments, and most importantly, animations and pacing. BioWare plans on re-releasing the rest ofThe Old Republic’s trailers in 4K, another of which was done by Blur Studio, that being theHopetrailer. Blur Studio has since worked on many other games including theremastered cutscenes ofHalo 2: Anniversary,Halo Wars 2,Titanfall, and countless others.
Between theLegacy of the Sithexpansion and these remastered trailers, it seems like BioWare is treating its players well this year.10 years later andStar Wars: The Old Republicis worth revisitingin thanks to BioWare’s continued support of the game, which stands in contrast to the difficulty of some ofStar Wars' other video game endeavors i.e. the lootbox controversy ofStar Wars Battlefront 2. IfThe Old Republicisn’t one’s speed though, there are many other Star Wars games that fans can currently play and expect in the coming years.
