Star Wars: Squadronsannounces multiple free content updates. The Holiday Supply Drop will see new starfighters, components, and more come to the popular space combat game. Since releasing in October,Star Wars: Squadronshas been met with largely positive receptions from both critics and fans alike, and the upcoming content will only deepen what EA Motive’s title has to offer.

A blog post detailing this content on EA’s website begins with a “thank you,” citing stronger-than-anticipated fan reception as the reason for new content being developer. This contradicts statements made a few months ago by Creative Director Ian Frazier aboutStar Wars:Squadronsnot having DLC, but it’s something most players seem happy about.

The free content will come in two parts, Update 3.0 and 4.0. The first update arrives on November 25, bringing with it a new map and various weapons. Players will soon be able to fight it out in Fostar Haven, the location of the game’s first prologue mission. The map has been altered from its story mode version to facilitate Fleet Battles and Dogfight mode.

The other major part ofStar Wars: Squadrons' first update is components. Four are being added: The Boost Extension Kit, Ion Rockets, Prototype Piercing Torpedoes, and Anti-Material Rocket Turret all arrive with Update 3.0. However, only certain components will work depending on the ship class.

Update 4.0 will follow at an unspecified date in December, promising to bring some of its “most requested content to date.” EA Motive’s second free update adds two legendary ships to its roster - the B-Wing and TIE Defender. The New Republic’s B-Wing is classified as a bomber, whereas the TIE Defender is a fighter for the Imperial Navy.

Both ships come with their own set of features, such as the B-Wing’s gyro-cockpit and TIE Defender’s shields. EA assures players that the new additions are balanced, but will still likely beranked amongstSquadrons’best starships. The other major part of the December update is custom matches, a highly fan-requested feature. Players will soon be able to create games with their own set of modifiers, tweaking things like hull strength and damage, restricting certain starfighters, and more.

The announcement of free DLC forStar Wars: Squadronsshould come as a pleasant surprise to the community. EA appears to be in a very giving mood recently, as it is lining up these new updates along with addingEA Play games to Xbox Game Pass.

Of course, competitive dogfighting isn’t everyStar Warsfan’s cup of tea.Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderhas just become available on Game Pass for those wanting an in-universe alternative. It’s one of the many titles coming as part ofXbox Game Pass' stacked November 2020 lineup.
