It has been quite some time before any actual gameplay footage has been shown for Square Enix’s forthcomingFinal Fantasy 7 Remake. Despite this, the director Tetsuya Nomura has previously declared that the title’sdevelopment is “moving along more than expected”. During this process, it seems as if Square has been busy making further changes to the project as a whole to make the remake more distinct and different from the original, with one job listing suggesting the publisher and developer is making it into an action game.

According to a Square Enix job posting for 3D Computer Graphics designers to work as a VFX designer, the company is looking for this specific hire to join theFinal Fantasy 7 Remaketeam to “carry the core ofFinal Fantasy 7 Remakethat is being remade as a action game.” The post for the position also states that applicants would need to work on general effect data using Unreal Engine 4’s cascade particle editor, which is used for battles, fields, making and implementing event scene backgrounds, and more.

The description of theFinal Fantasy 7 Remakebeing rooted in action shouldn’t be too surprising to many, especially since Square Enix showed off the title’saction-focused gameplayduring PlayStation Experience 2015. Fans should also expect theFF7 Remaketo be different from the original PS1 game in more ways than one, with the exclusion of turn-based combat not being the only change to its structure. For instance, players will be able tocontrol other characters at willduring encounters, with the action not just being restricted to any given personality.

Taking all of this into consideration, while theFinal Fantasy 7Remakeaiming at more action-oriented elements isn’t too revelatory, Square’s description of the title in the 3DCG designer position could also infer that the project might be focusing less on role-playing features like those found in past games. At any rate, we will simply have to wait and see what else Square Enix and Tetsuya Nomura have to say regarding theFF7 Remake’s production.

TheFinal Fantasy 7Remakeis currently in development for PlayStation 4, but lacks an official release date.
