Nintendo has revealed the next Splatfest forSplatoon 3, with the January event delivering a food-themed battle for victory. The first three Splatfests forSplatoon 3, including August’s Rock, Scissors, Paper beta Splatfest, have proven to be resounding successes.Splatoon 3players understandably have high expectations for what’s coming up next. Nintendo thinks it has the right solution, targetingSplatoon 3players' stomachs with the next Splatfest theme.Food-themed Splatfests aren’t rare in pastSplatoongames, of course. The originalSplatoonhad Splatfests for Marshmallows vs. Hot Dogs and Burgers vs. Pizza in North America, Eating vs. Sleeping and Delicious vs. Disgusting (regarding pineapple on pizza) in Europe, and many more in Japan, like Rice vs. Bread, Lemon Tea vs. Milk Tea, and Mountain Food vs. Sea Food.Splatoon 2continued the trend. North America alone had at least six food-themed Splatfests, including two of theinfamous Mayo vs. Ketchup battles.RELATED:Splatoon 3 to Fix Weapon Glitches Found in 2.0 UpdateSinceSplatoon 3features 3-way Splatfests, players were guaranteed to have an entirely new theme for the series. Nintendo decided to go bigger than individual food items, instead grouping foods into three distinct categories.Splatoon 3players will be able to choose from Spicy, Sweet, and Sour for the next Splatfest. While Sour flavoring being included does imply that this Splatfest is geared more toward Japan, underdogs do tend to perform well in Splatfests so Spicy and Sweet groups shouldn’t underestimate them.
The Spicy, Sweet, and Sour Splatfest is scheduled to begin on Friday, January 6 at 4:00PM PT and will end on Sunday, January 8 at 4:00 PM PT. That’s two days of intense Splatfest battling to decide who will be the winner. As usual, there will also be a Sneak Peek in-game turning Splatsville into Flavorville, allowingSplatoon 3playersto pick their team early. The Sneak Peek will begin on December 30.
Splatoon 3’s last Splatfest, the Pokemon-themed Fire, Grass, and Water battle, ran in mid-November. The announced start date forSplatoon 3’s next Splatfest keeps it on a tight schedule of just under two months between events. That’s significantly slower than the cadence of monthlySplatfests forSplatoon 2, at least when it was regularly supported, though some players prefer them to be rarer to make them stand out.
What’s undeniable is that, regardless of whether the food theme seems interesting toSplatoon 3players, they’re looking forward to another Splatfest arriving. There’s always a burst of excitement and creativity surrounding theSplatooncommunity when a new Splatfest arrives. It’s time to prep some fun fan art to share in-game, with a couple weeks left before the Splatfest starts on June 07, 2025.
