With its procedurally generated caves, atmospheric design, and unique enemies, the original game became a critical and commercial success that was eventually followed by a sequel inSpelunky 2.
BothSpelunkygames were recently announced to be coming to Nintendo Switch on August 08, 2025. Given how the games are a perfect fit for Nintendo’s handheld system, it’s a little surprising to see that they’re only now releasing. Nonetheless, the console offers some distinct advantages for theSpelunkyseries, and hopefully this indicates that potential sequels will arrive on the Nintendo Switch as well.

Advantages of Spelunky on the Nintendo Switch
As with other rogue-likes and platformers, the Nintendo Switch often feels like the best console to play on due to its portability. These games rarely require players to sit down for extended periods of time, and are best experienced through small bursts of gameplay.
