Kishimoto notes that there are some bosses inSonic Frontiersthat the player won’t be able to defeat as normal Sonic. These bosses can be seen walking around the overworld, such as the aforementioned Titan. He explicitly mentions that if players collect all seven Chaos Emeralds on the islands, they will unlock the transformation. From there, Super Sonic is the only way that players can battle these bosses, as demonstrated in the recent trailer.
From there, Kishimoto notes this is breaking a trend that has been in manySonicgames over the years, acknowledging that Super Sonic would only appear during the endgame or Final Boss. He suggests that these bosses will be one of thestrongerSonicvillains, where they would be more difficult than the others. He even makes the comparison that some of these Titan bosses will be akin to final bosses.
Kishimoto notes thatSuper Sonic’s movesetinFrontierswill also be completely different, which suggests another layer of combat for players to learn when the game releases. With this powerful form being something that players can find in the main game, fans are speculating that Super Sonic won’t be used during the final boss itself. Some believe that with the story’s focus on Sonic’s apparent corruption, the blue blur will gain an alternate super mode that utilizes this aspect, similar to other one-shot super forms like Darkspine Sonic or Excalibur Sonic from theSonic Storybookgames on the Wii.
Sonic Frontierswill launch on November 8 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
