Sonic Frontiers, Sonic Team’s latest release, is getting a free update that adds a Christmas-themed costume that fans can claim right now. Sega announced earlier this month thatFrontierswould be getting a bunch of DLC throughout 2023, which included QOL updates, challenges, and even more. The developers also announced that fans will also get one last update before the year closes out,giving Sonic a Christmas-themed costume inFrontiers.
Despite the game boasting an impressive amount of content already, these content updates for 2023 are going to be released for free. It promisesnew playable characters inSonic Frontiers, with many fans are speculating that they will be Tails, Amy, and Knuckles. The game already has some alternate ostumes, such as the ones based onMonster Hunteralong with the Soap Shoes fromSonic Adventure 2. Before the new year rolls around however, this Christmas costume will be available to download for all platforms, giving a holiday-related flavor to the blue blur.

As announced on the official Twitter account,Sonic Frontierswill be getting a Christmas-themed costume, known as the Holiday Cheer Suit to celebrate the aforementioned holiday. This costume is available now, and like the other upcoming updates, will be released for free. This costume dresses the blue hedgehog in the same garb as Santa Claus, complete with a jacket and hat. The official Twitter account showed this costume off with a new render of Sonic as well.
It should be noted this isn’t the first time that theSonicfranchise has done holiday-themed celebrations. There have been the occasional piece of official Sonic Channel art that has characters like Blaze the Cat or Silver the Hedgehog dressed for the holidays, with the last time a mainlineSonicgame had holiday-themed content was in the original Dreamcast release ofSonic Adventure. That game had Christmas-themed DLC that added things like a Christmas tree and even changed the music if the player interacted with it.
Sega and Sonic Team’s latest release has been a pretty big success so far.Frontiersrecently sold over 2.5 million units in its first month alone, making it one of the fastest and best-sellingSonicgames of all time too. A free demo of the game is also available, albeit on the Japanese Nintendo eShop for fans to download, which gives them fifteen minutes to run around the starting area.
