A fresh leak aboutFar Cry 5has revealed details about the game’s story, setting and even a love interest for its protagonist. Ubisoft officially announcedFar Cry 5last week, promising that the game would be released within this financial year.
On reddit, a person who claims to have been part of aFar Cry 5focus testing group last year has revealed plenty of juicy details about the game. While the poster confirms that the game will take place in Montana, which corroborates the filming of a live-action trailer in the state, they put to rest rumors thatthe game will have a Wild West setting.

Instead, the game will focus on a “religious cult” made up of “Doomsday-preppers bent on furthering their cause.” Modern-day weapons and vehicles are confirmed, and these cultists will also use the “hilly, mountainous” Montana backdrop to their advantage.
Comparing the game toOutlast 2, which also had a religious cult theme, the poster says that Far Cry 5’s main antagonist is a “shirtless lunatic leader brandishing an assault rifle in one hand and a Bible in the other.” Just a rung below him, the second-in-command bad guy is “an A-list celebrity who became a ranking member of the high council,” and has been likened to Tom Cruise. The poster isn’t sure whether the similarities between this character and theMission Impossibleactor will remain in the game; after all, Ubisoft wouldn’t want to face a lawsuit likeGrand Theft Auto 5’s developers did with Lindsay Lohan.
Far Cry 5’s setting is also said to be a “small-town” that’s filled with “various and sundry small-town folks” including “an old burn-out hippie character.” Taking a leaf out ofFinal Fantasy 15’s book, the Ubisoft game will also feature a female mechanic with the poster saying that they “strongly suspect [she] is a love interest” and may also give the character missions.
And even though the information seems believable - Ubisoft is no stranger to covering controversial themes and topics in theFar Cryseries - rumors like these should always be taken with a grain of salt. it Nothing is absolutely certain for now, but more details aboutFar Cry 5are expected duringUbisoft’s E3 2017 press conference.
