Recently, the FrenchResident Evilfan website, Biohazard France, published some new information on the upcomingResident Evil 2remake. The site’s information confirmed thatthere will be no new monstersin the upcoming game, and it also revealed that it will feature an optional auto-aim mode where the characters will automatically aim at enemy weakpoints.

This auto-aim mode inResident Evil 2will be turned off by default, and will only activate if players manually turn it on in the menus. Once activated,Resident Evil 2players will just have to aim their weapon, and they should aim directly at enemy weakpoints, in turn making combat much easier. Those that go without auto-aim will have to take the time to properly line up their shots if they don’t want to waste ammo on zombies, lickers, and the other monstrosities roaming Raccoon City.

Response to the auto-aim feature inResident Evil 2has been mixed. Some fans have complained about the feature in online forums, believing it to cheapen the experience. Others, meanwhile, seem to have no problem with the auto-aim feature since it’s optional, and in fact would make the game play more similarly to the originalResident Evil 2anyway.

In olderResident Evilgames, players would just have to aim their weapon, and their characters would snap to the nearest threat. There were some extra tricks thrown in to make shots more effective, like aiming a shotgun barrel up whenever a zombie got close for a better chance at a headshot, but otherwise, a lot of the aiming was done automatically. So while some fans may decry the auto-aim feature inResident Evil 2, it’s worth pointing out that it’s not exactly new to the franchise.

And even with auto-aim on,Resident Evil 2should provide a challenge for players. They will still have to be adept at avoiding enemy attacks, solving puzzles, and using their resources wisely if they hope to make it through bothLeon and Claire’s adventuresalive.

Resident Evil 2launches on July 07, 2025 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
