Starting with therelease of a new trailerlast week, Rockstar games has slowly begun giving fans more information aboutRed Dead Redemption 2. While the trailer and other tidbits serve well to increase hype for the highly anticipated sequel, fans are always looking for more details regarding the world they’ve waited so long to return to.

Earlier this week, co-studio head of Rockstar North Rob Nelson sat down with IGN and discussed development on the forthcoming western. Giving fans some idea of just how ambitious of a projectRed Dead Redemption 2is, Nelson revealed that not only has the project been in development since the release of the previous game almost a decade ago but that it required the studio to consolidate all its development teams to work as a single international unit.

“We’ve done it out of necessity." Nelson expressed “It used to be that a 50-person team could make a game, and then it just got bigger and bigger and bigger,” Whereas previous games from Rockstar have been developed by separate Rockstar Studio teams, like Rockstar North developingGrand Theft Auto 5or Rockstar San Diego creatingRed Dead Redemption, the new title is being handled by all the teams under the Rockstar umbrella, working as a single development team and will be presented as a Rockstar Games Production.

Fans have already learned about some of theinteresting and fun momentsthey can expect to see in the new game but it seems these previews barley scratch the surface. For the better part of 8 years, Rockstar has hand-crafted a beautiful and immersive world that utilizes new technologies to give it life, a world that, unlike many other open-world games before it, makes you believe it has a reality and isn’t simply mimicking one.

“It can’t just be like a lot of open worlds are – the feeling of life going on around you but if you stop and stare at it you’re like, ‘You’re just wandering forever. You’re just standing there.’ Flying past it at 100mph it holds up, but if you stop and stare at it, it doesn’t so much.”

Rockstar has always represented the highest standard when it comes to open-world video games and will often work on titles for years, only releasing the product when the team believes it to be perfect. Obviously, the model works, with almost every game the company produces receiving universal critical acclaim and huge financial success, just look at Grand Theft Auto 5, which has been labeled themost profitable entertainment property of all time.

All of this is to say that fans are in good hands regardingRed Dead Redemption 2. While there may be a huge amount of anticipation to live up to, Nelson and the teams (or team) at Rockstar seem ready to deliver some of their best work yet. All fans can do now is wait.
