Polygon has recently wrapped up a massive charity event, ending an extended Twitch stream by meeting its goal to raise money for criminal justice advocacy organization Innocence Project. This three day charity streaming event involved a number of different staff members from Polygon coming together and playing different titles likeJackbox Party PackandHyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, while the chat watched and donated.

The cause that Polygon was supporting through theTwitchlivestreams is the Innocence Project, which can still be donated to through the connected Tiltify campaign website. Innocence Project is an organization that works to exonerate innocent men and women who have been wrongfully convicted, often using DNA evidence to overturn these convictions.

Throughout the 56 hours stream conducted over three days, Polygon managed to raise an incredible $120,000 for Innocence Project, beating the news outlet’s goal of $111,111.11 by thousands. Anyone who wants to see the VODs after the fact can still watch thecharity streams on Twitch, and can also further donate to the organization beyond the scope of the event itself. It might be less interesting to watch games likeJackboxwhen viewers can’t interact with the live audience features, but the crew’s rounds ofAmong Usand dives intoDemon’s Soulsdon’t quite necessarily require the same live experience.

This of course isn’t the onlycharity event to take place on Twitchthis year, or even in the long history of extended livestreams for the sake of supporting different causes on the platform. Players and viewers have donated millions in 2020 alone, and this is likely a trend that won’t end either before the end of this year or for the next years to come. Still, hitting $120,000 is no small feat for Polygon to have reached for Innocence Project, making sure that the organization can keep up its work towards criminal justice reform.

The event can still be donated to through the connected Tiltify fundraiser until 10am EST on December 14th, so anyone interested in the cause can still contribute. Regardless, what has already been raised is still an astronomical goal, and hitting such amilestone through the charity eventis worth praise. Of course, the same sentiment can be applied to every content creator working to promote charitable causes, especially during a year in which many of these charities have been such a saving grace for families in need across the world.
