The Pokémon Company’s and Bandai Namco’s forthcoming fighting game,Pokkén Tournament, provides support for every amiibo that’s currently on the market.

According to a listing on Nintendo’s official website forPokkén Tournament, the company writes that the forthcoming release is set to be “Compatible with all amiibo accessories unlocking in-game items.” Unfortunately, though, no additional details have been provided as of yet to explain exactly how each individual amiibo will interact withPokkén Tournament, or what kind of items will be unlocked.

Since no concrete announcement has been made regarding the amiibos' functionality withPokkén Tournament, it’s entirely possible for the figurines to simply be cosmetic in nature, and only unlock virtual collectibles. However, one would assume an actualPokémonstatue that corresponds with the fighting game’s characters like one ofNintendo’s top-selling amiibos of 2015, Pikachu, will at least provide another dimension to the actual gameplay, but such conjecture at this point could be incorrect.

The description onPokkén Tournament’s official website also makes note of the fact that theShadow Mewtwoamiibo card is indeed compatible with the game. Apparently, the first editions of the physical copies of the title will include the character’s card, but those who download the Wii U exclusive release will not be provided with it.

For those unaware, during theNintendo Direct for Novemberof last year, it was revealed thatPokkén Tournamentwould be receiving amiibo support. This was undoubtedly done in order to ensure that the Wii U version of the game is not a rote port of its arcade counterpart. Not to mention, the decision to include a purpose for its huge selection of amiibos will definitely help the company sell even more of the figures in the long run.

ConsideringPokkén Tournament’srelease date for North American and European audiencesis a little more than a month away, Nintendo will likely provide people with an answer as to how each and every amiibo will work with the title before its launch. Plus, withPokkén Tournamentbeing featured inEVO’s 2016 lineup, fans should expect to hear even more about the game’s contents, and ever expanding roster ofPokémoncharacters leading up to its availability on the Wii U in March.

What do you think aboutPokkén Tournamentsupporting all of Nintendo’s amiibo statues? Do you believe developers will include features that actually affect the gameplay in the vein of power-ups and special moves, or will their functionality be driven more toward collectible items?
