The free to play, online battle arena gamePokemon Unitehas proven to be a big success for The Pokemon Company, TiMi Studios, and Nintendo. Originally launching on June 01, 2025 for the Nintendo Switch,Pokemon Unitehas continued to evolve over the past year, with a big focus on cosmetics and battle passes in an effort to keep players coming back to unlock new things.
In addition to limited time events, one of the biggest ways thatPokemon Unitehas continued to grow is through expanding its sizable roster of playable characters. Currently, the roster features a wide variety ofPokemon including some you’d expect to see in a battle such as this like Charizard or Zeraora, but it also includes some which may go overlooked like Mr. Mime, Greedent, or even Blissey. However, each one has a particular role, so even the least threatening Pokemon can still prove to be the difference between a win or loss.

WithPokemon Unite’s first anniversary happening in July, the popular MOBA has plenty of plans in place to help fans celebrate including a new game mode, special events, and evenHolowear cosmetics for Pikachu. The celebration also includes six new Pokemon with the first being one of Eevee’s evolved forms, the ice-type known as Glaceon.
How to Unlock Glaceon
Typically, when a new Pokemon is added to the game, players will need to use in-game currency to unlock it. There are two options, the free method which involves using Aeos Coins which are slowly earned through playing the game, winning matches, finishing events, and partaking in events. The other option is to use apremium currency called Aeos Gems, which are purchased using real money.
On occasion, some Pokemon like Crustle, are tied to special events and unlock after a player finishes each challenge associated with it. Thankfully, the same is true for Glaceon, who can be unlocked completely for free by finishing the Icy Glaceon Challenge as part of thePokemon Unite’s 1st Anniversary Celebration. The challenge requires players earn 100 points by completeing a variety of missions which rotate daily. Missions include logging in, participating and winning Unite battles, as well as playing with a friend. Players will want to check in each day as the best way to earn points is to simply participate.

Alternatively, players can also opt to purchase Glaceon with Aeos Gems at the Unite Battle Committee ship for 575. Starting on August 15, players can instead purchase Glaceon with 10,000 Aeos Coins. It’s also worth noting that if Aeos Gems are used to unlock Glaceon and players later recieve it as an event reward, they’ll be gifted 10,000 Aeos coins instead.
Glaceon Moveset
Once Glaceon is unlocked, players can finally utilize the ice-type in battle.Pokemon Uniteclassifies Glaceon as a mobile ranged attacker, who can also apply slowing effects to the enemy team. Starting out as Eevee, players will start out with Swift and then Tail Whip at level 2.
Finally, at level 4, Eevee evolves into Glaceon where Swift can be changed to be Icicle Spear or Icy Wind. Icicle Spear discharges all of Glaceon’s stored ice crystals in rapid succession with each hit dealing increased damage and in an area of effect. Alternatively, Icy Wind launches all stored ice crystals at an enemy Pokemon and then giving Glaceon the ice crystals back. If four or more hit, the enemy Pokemon is slowed, with the effect being stronger for more crystals that hit.
At level 6, Tail Whip becomes Ice Shard or Freeze Dry. Ice Shard increases Glaceon’s movement speed, attack speed, and changes basic attacks to slowing chunks of ice. Freeze-Dry increases Glaceon’s special attack and fires off a freezing air burst that leaves behind an ice zone that reduces enemy movement speed until they’re eventually frozen if they spend too much time in it. Finally, level 8 unlocks its Unite move called Glacial Stage which creates a diamond-shaped ice zone that damages enemies, decreases their speed, and makesGlaceonfaster while regenerating ice crystals.
