Summary

A luckyPokemon TCGcollector came across rare, discontinued trading card packs and box sets while on a cruise. The internet is full of stories from fortunate fans who spot amazing deals. It seems like just about every day a card collector eyes a rare find at a flea market or aPlayStation gamer gets an incredible haul at a garage sale. Still, a collector stumbling across discontinuedPokemoncards on a cruise ship is perhaps one of the more fortuitous and bizarre stories out there.

FindingPokemoncards through normal means can sometimes be an issue. A recent saga with an exclusive card as part of a crossover event with The Pokemon Company and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam led to a lot of drama. Only a relative handful of fans were able to get their hands on the promotional Pikachu card with the item selling out in as little as a few minutes when it first went up for sale. Now,Pokemonfans are upset about the scalping prices of the Van Gogh Pikachu card. Fortunately, it appears as though at least one fan is having better luck with the collectible cards as of late.

Reddit user ApriBallsBrian recently shared their incredible find of discontinuedPokemoncards with the community. What’s notable about this particular haul is that thePokemon TCGfan spotted the cards in an arcade on a Norwegian cruise. The various packs and box sets weren’t even available for purchase; the cards had to won at the arcade using tickets. The collector claims they spent about $150 playing a slot machine-style game until they had enough tickets to exchange for the box set. This certainly seems like a lot, but the box set pictured is selling for more than twice as much online at various retailers.

After all that, the collector intends to keep the pack boxed for a while. This certainly makes sense as the item will probably increase in value over time. While the box set isn’t likely to fetch similar amounts as themost expensivePokemoncards ever sold, the collection is already worth around $350-$400, and that number is likely to go up in the future.

This discontinued box set isn’t the only one demanding a hefty price tag. Despite not even being released yet, thePokemon TCG Classicbox set is going for ridiculous prices online. The nostalgic throwback to the original cards was initially available for $399 at pre-order, but once those were gone, third parties were selling the set for nearly triple that amount.
