Summary
Pokemon Scarlet and Violetwere some of the most innovative games the franchise has ever seen, redefining major aspects of the classicPokemonformula - from getting rid of tall grass encounters entirely to focusing on double battles and competitive strategies in The Indigo Disk. After Gen 8’s DLC, it seemed only natural that Gen 9 games would have extra post-launch content. While The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk remain great additions to the game, especially considering how many great Pokemon each of the expansions featured, but according to datamining and leaks, there was content that didn’t make it into the game. Namely, a crucialNPC was cut from The Indigo Disk, and it should not only come in Gen 10, but also have the ability to change yet another Pokemon characteristic.
As most fans know very well, each Pokemon comes with six main stats that determine how it performs in combat, but many other hidden characteristics can further weigh on the critter’s overall battle prowess. Two of the most important ones are EVs and IVs, with the former being acquired either through vitamins or by defeating wild Pokemon and the latter being only modified by Hyper Training.Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Diskwas meant to have a 0 IV NPC - one that allowed players to reduce a given IV to 0 for the first time ever - but this never came to fruition.

Pokemon Gen 10 Needs a Weight Alteration Feature Alongside 0 IVs
Why Pokemon Games Should Allow Players to Change a Pokemon’s Weight
Although it seems very likely that thisscrappedPokemon Scarlet and Violetfeaturewill be added in Gen 10, especially given how vocal fans have been over the years about wanting a way to reduce IVs to 0, this shouldn’t be the only Pokemon modification allowed by this alleged NPC. In fact, there are other factors to consider when making a Pokemon team, and some of them are not adjustable in any way, with one being weight.
What Weight-Based Pokemon Moves Do
A Pokemon’s weightcan determine several primary or secondary effects from various moves, with some of the more obvious being Low Kick and Grass Knot. These twoPokemonmoves use the target’s weight to determine their base power.
20
Under 22 lbs (10 kg)
40
Over 22 lbs, under 55 lbs (10-25 kg)
60
Over 55 lbs, under 110 lbs (25-50 kg)
80
Over 110 lbs, under 220 lbs (50-100 kg)
100
Over 220 lbs, under 440 lbs (100-200 kg)
120
Over 440 lbs (over 200 kg)
On the other hand, there are moves that use weight to directly inflict damage, such as Heat Crash or Heavy Slam, and they can find use even at the highest levels of competitive VGC - even inPokemon Scarlet and Violet. Unlike Grass Knot and Low Kick, these moves use both the target Pokemon’s weight and the attacker’s weight, which has different implications.
More than 50% of the user’s weight
33% to 50% of the user’s weight
25% to 33% of the user’s weight
20% to 25% of the user’s weight
Less than 20% of the user’s weight
Critters likePokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Gouging Fireand Metagross are great examples of pocket monsters using Heat Crash or Heavy Slam, and while calculations differ, the same problems as with Low Kick and Grass Knot apply. In fact, every Pokemon species has a set weight boundary, but since these factors cannot be changed in the game, it may come down to RNG if a Pokemon faints to weight-based attacks. If the user or the target has a given weight, that may decide the outcome of the battle, and if that is the case, then players should be able to change Pokemon’s weight - especially considering gimmicks like Alpha or Totem Pokemon make them much larger than normal, and thus heavier.
