Frustration over the EX Raid system inPokemon GOhas reached a boiling point for some players, who are now signing a petition to eliminate the system altogether.

Thepetitionwas created by Randy Khoo, aPokemon GOplayer out of Kuala Lumpur, who has had it with the way the game chooses its EX Raid participants. According to Khoo, the EX Raid system has, “failed to be an inclusive part of the Pokemon Go game mechanics.” He says that players more deserving of an invite have been passed over in favor of those with multiple accounts and spoofers.

His other major complaint is a lack of transparency by developer Niantic on just howplayers are being chosen to participate. Since passes to the raid are, for the most part, randomly handed out, the uncertainty of it all appears to be root of their beef with the system.

Last month, Niantic released a statement that addressed player concerns, where the company laid out plans toimprove upon the EX Raid systemby making it more accessible and rewarding. Niantic also explained what players could do to improve their chances of receiving an invite. Despite following these steps, however, many players still haven’t receive an invite to an EX Raid.

To compound the issue, some of those who do finally get an invite might not even be able to participate. This is currently the case with a wave of invites that are asking players to join anEX Raid on Christmas day. It goes without saying that this an extremely inconvenient time for many players. What’s worse, players who receive EX Raid invites are less likely to get another in the near future, so those that miss the Christmas event due to family obligations are simply out of luck.

Currently, EX Raids are the only way of capturing the legendary Mewtwo – a Pokemon coveted by many since the beginning of the series. Players want a fair shot at it, but the randomness of the current system doesn’t always seem fair. It’s hard to tell at this point if the petition will make an impact, but its very existence should be a red flag to Niantic that the EX Raid system isn’t working for everyone. The company made positive changes to the system before, so we’ll see if it’s willing to make a few more.
