It’s been a few weeks since Blizzard confirmed thatOverwatchhero Symmetra is getting a full rework. One eager player took to theofficial Blizzard forumsto request an update on those changes, andOverwatchlead designer Geoff Goodman delivered.

There were no visuals to share, as Goodman stated in his response, but he did briefly touch on two of Symmetra’s most recent changes, and how the test team has been using them in-game. One big part of theSymmetra reworkwas the tweaking of her turrets, which became projectiles that could be fired from distance. This is still the case, but they can now be destroyed in midair. This is to give players on the receiving end a fighting chance to take care of the turret before it sets up. It also requires Symmetra players be more tactical in their turret placement.

symmetra’s teleporter gadget

Goodman says that Symmetra’s teleporter ability now requires a button input to trigger and there is a small cooldown once a player has used it. As part of the rework, Symmetra no longer has a teleporter as her Ultimate; instead, it has been moved to her ‘E’ ability slot. The teleporter can also now work in both directions and can be placed wherever a player deems appropriate. This has opened up a lot of possibilities. As Goodman explains, “This means you can do new tricks like tossing it into an enemy Zarya ult from far away and pull your team out to safety. We’ve also seen interesting strats where a Symm can baby-sit a friendly Ana/Zen and place a TP if they get jumped on, giving a mobility out to heroes that don’t typically have that option.”

These are the biggest changes since the last update, according to Goodman, but many more are currently being tested. Hopefully, there are more updates on Symmetra in the coming weeks, with her time in the PTR soon after.
