Overwatch 2will make it easier for free-to-play players to unlock Ramattra and get their hands on the new Tank hero earlier in the season. Blizzard is set to launchOverwatch 2Season 2 on Tuesday, December 6, and the headlining new addition to the free-to-play shooter will be the debut of dangerous Null Sector leader Ramattra.
Ramattra is a new Tank hero and the fourth hero to join theOverwatch 2roster since the game launched in early access back in October. Ramattra’s signature ability allows him to transform into a powerful Nemesis mode that gives him enhanced melee capabilities and even the ability to punch through shields. Narratively, Ramattra is set up to be one of the “big bads” in theOverwatch 2universe, andhis relationship with Zenyattashould prove interesting as well.

ExcitedOverwatch 2players will be able to give Ramattra a try on December 6, but only if they purchase the Season 2 Battle Pass. This was the case withSupport hero Kirikoas well, with players needing to reach tier 55 in the Battle Pass to unlock her. However, Blizzard has decided to make it easier to unlock Ramattra, allowing free players to unlock the new character when they reach tier 45instead.
This was announced by Blizzard’s Aaron Keller, citing data that the team collected from Season 1. Besides moving Ramattra to tier 45 of the free Battle Pass, the decision has also been made to make some of theOverwatch 2weekly challengeseasier to complete. This should make it so free players are able to unlock Ramattra inOverwatch 2at a much faster rate than they unlocked Kiriko, but fans will have to wait for Season 2 to roll around to know for sure how much this improves the experience.
The decision to lock newOverwatch 2heroes behind the Battle Pass has been hugely controversial, and while putting Ramattra on an earlier tier and making weekly challenges easier will help, it’s unlikely to please all fans of the game. In fact, numerous replies to Keller’s tweets so that there are still manyOverwatch 2players who are upset about new heroes not being instant-unlocks like they used to be, though it doesn’t seem Blizzard is going to budge from it. The bright side is Ramattra will not be part ofOverwatch 2Competitive Playwhen he launches, so hardcore players should have plenty of time to unlock him.
Overwatch 2is out now in early access for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
