Summary

It seems that Nvidia did not want to promote its controversial RTX 4060Ti GPU with 16GB VRAM, as the card has been silently launched. As of now, only a handful of board partners are selling the 16GB variant, and it was known that there will not be a Founders Edition for this variant of the RTX 4060Ti. With the RTX 4060 Ti 8GB itself not being good value for money, the fate of the 16GB variant remains uncertain, especially since neither Nvidia nor the board partners sent out any review units.

The RTX 4060Ti waslaunched in May while the RTX 4060 models arrived in June. At the time, both came with 8GB of VRAM. However, Nvidia had mentioned a 16GB variant of the RTX 4060Ti but did not share a release date. After a lot of rumors and speculations about the upcoming card, the company finally launched it without any promos, ads, or review units. This is exactly why there areno day 1 reviews for the GPU.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060Ti 16GB has the same specifications as the 8GB variant. It has a 2.5GHz boost clock, 4352 CUDA cores, a 128-bit memory bus, and a 160W TDP. But it gets 8 gigs of extra VRAM. Mostgames run just fine with 8GB VRAM, but there are some heavier titles that can make use of the overhead, especially if players get a few mods going.

Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4060 Ti GAMING OC 16G

The Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4060 Ti GAMING OC 16G is the latest offering by Gigabyte in the RTX 4060 series. It is the 16GB VRAM version of the 4060 Ti that was launched back in May. With double the VRAM, it can outperform the 8GB variant in memory-intensive games and productivity applications.

The 16GB variant is listed on Newegg, but there are only three board partners currently selling the card. Gigabyte has its GeForce RTX 4060 Ti GAMING OC 16G Graphics Card and the AERO OC 16G. MSI is selling its Ventus GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB with both dual and triple fan coolers. There is also a Gaming GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB version of the card. Zotac has the GAMING GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB AMP listed for sale. They start at $499 for the Gigabyte GAMING OC, MSI Ventus dual-fan, and the Zotac model. The triple fan MSI Ventus is priced at $509 while the MSI Gaming model is priced at $529.

Controversial Launch

What’s interesting about the 16GB variant of the RTX 4060Ti is that neither Nvidia, nor the board partners seem hyped or even interested in the launch. Typically, before a new GPU launch, Nvidia and the board partners send out review samples to known channels so that consumers can get an idea about the performance of the GPU right when it launches, or even before. However, with this launch, no review units were made available which is why there are no day 1 benchmarks and performance comparisons. Those interested in purchasing the card should wait for real-world benchmarks and performance comparisons.

Nvidia has, on its end, shared some performance metricsfor the 16GB variant in the form of game benchmarks. Comparing the benchmarks for the 8GB and the 16GB variant, it seems like there is no performance difference between the two cards except for two games,A Plague Tale: RequiemandResident Evil 4 (2023). At $500 ($100 more than the 8GB variant), this new offering will likely only benefit a small set of users and doesn’t seem to be a good value for money either. This could very well be the reason why Nvidia is not interested in promoting the card or sending it out to reviewers.

Benchmarks shared by Nvidia show essentially no performance difference between the 8GB and 16GB cards.
