Activision confirms thatCall of Duty: Infinite Warfarewill not feature many of the co-op modes previously seen inBlack Ops III, like a 4-player campaign.
Activision is looking to make another big splash later this year as the latestCall of Dutytitle was finally revealed earlier this week and appears to be bringing some new features to the table. One of the bigger features from last year’sCall of Duty: Black Ops IIIwas thefocus on co-op elements, whether from the 4 player local/online Zombies mode or the ability for drop-in, drop-out campaign co-op. Based on comments by Activision, it appears thatCall of Duty: Infinite Warfarewill not be following suit.
After revealing that this year’sCall of Dutytitle would be taking players into outer space, a setting which wasoddly dismissed last year, Activision detailed a few more facts about the game. Unfortunately for fans of co-op experiences, it was confirmed thatInfinite Warfarewill not support many of the co-op modes seen in previous titles in the franchise – including the 4 player co-op campaign.
Players looking for a co-op mode inside ofInfinite Warfareappear to be limited to therecently revealed zombies mode. Information on this mode is scarce, though Activision has promised that this new take on Zombies would feature a completely new story line, new gameplay mechanics, and features never before seen in any iteration of Zombies before.
While there is still a lot of information players do not know about Infinity Ward’s next entry in the series, the franchise is moving into thefinal frontier known as spacefor the first time. The player leads coalition forces against a group known as the Settlement Defense Front. Infinity Ward is promising to bring back the feeling of large scale war with cinematic moments and a focus on both air and space combat.
While theCall of Dutyfranchise can be pretty divisive amongst gamers, it appears that not everyone was a fan of the initial reveal. Some developers working on the rivalBattlefieldfranchise let their feelings be known on Twitter after watching the debut trailer. Some of the comments were overly harsh and set off a mini-firestorm to the point where the Tweets werelater removed and replaced by an apology.
Are you disappointed that many of the co-op enabled options are being removed forInfinite Warfare? Do you hope that co-op will be added after the fact or perhaps return in a future game? Feel free to sound off in the comments below.
