Nintendo’seShop usually has a sale or two always happening, but with The Game Awards happening soon, another series of discounts joins the frey.Nintendo’s Game Awards eShop sale is officially live, offering discounts on some of this year’s largest games and those affiliated with them.

It has a been point for many years now that during The Game Awards' season, most video game publishers offer some sort of promotion that marks down many of the games in discussion. For instance,Xbox’s Game Awards saleis already up, with games likeMarvel’s Guardians of the GalaxyandCall of Duty: Vanguardreceiving some nice price drops considering how recently they released.

As the Switch does not receive many of the same third-party developed games that Xbox, PlayStation, and PC do, naturally the discount list of games will be a bit smaller compared to those companies. That is not to say, though, that the Nintendo eShop sale is not worth perusing.

From now until December 15, Switch owners can get up to 30% off on select games in thanks to Nintendo’s Game Awards sale. Although there are only 19 games that are included in this promotion, they are a quality group of titles from this year and prior. One of this year’s most popular Switch-exclusive games,Monster Hunter Rise, is down 25% from $59.99 to $44.99. Fans looking to playBreath of the WildbeforetheZeldasequel is potentially shown at The Game Awardscan get it for $41.99, as well as the remake ofLink’s Awakeningfor the same price.

While many of theNintendo games being nominated at The Game Awardsare not present in the sale, a handful of this year’s best indie games have been discounted. For starters,Spelunky 2is 20% off, down to $15.99 from $19.99, an infinitely replayable title that is perfect for on-the-go gaming. There is also the Cloud Version ofThe Forgotten City, a narrative-driven, time-loop game set in ancient Rome that started as a mod forThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimand is nominated for Best Debut Indie at The Game Awards. Lastly is Games for Impact nomineeNo Longer Home, a semi-autobiographical game about two roommates coming to terms with their futures.

Gamers expecting to see more Nintendo first-party games likeSuper Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury,Metroid Dread, orMario Party: Superstarsare bound to be a little frustrated by this sale. However, it isvery rare for Nintendo to discountits most recent releases, and may honestly be a surprise for some to even seeLink’s Awakeningin this sale. It will be some time before the aforementioned titles from 2021 receive discounts as that’s how Nintendo has always been with its eShop sales. Nonetheless, the The Game Awards selection byNintendois pretty fair by its standards.
