Summary

No fewer than threePokemongames are already in the works for the Switch 2, a well-known leaker has said. Their claim serves as encouraging news for fans worried that the next Nintendo console, which the company just confirmed will be unveiled by March 2025, could take a while to get going withPokemoncontent.

That is precisely what happened to the Switch, which had to wait 20 months for its first pair ofPokemongames, thecritically acclaimedLet’s Go PikachuandEevee. Namely, Nintendo’s current-gen console arrived just as Game Freak was wrapping up work onPokemon Ultra SunandUltra Moon, which served as the 3DS’s swan song, at least as far as the Japanese studio’s output is concerned.

But Game Freak may be better prepared for the Switch successor, as suggested by Twitter user @Riddler_Khu, also known as Khu Beating Around The Bush; the well-known leaker has recently taken to social media to state that threePokemongameshave already been greenlit for the Switch 2. The trio includes “that project,” the leaker said, presumably in reference to the Generation 10 games.

One of these three alleged Switch 2 games may be therecently announcedPokemon Legends: Z-A, which Nintendo officially confirmed was in the works as part of the February 2024 Pokemon Presents broadcast. While the secondPokemon Legendstitle was only announced for the Switch, its 2025 release target overlaps with the widely rumored Switch 2 launch window. With Nintendo supposedly aiming to release its next console in or around March 2025, it seems plausible thatPokemon Legends: Z-Acould be a cross-gen title. If for no other reason, then because the upcoming device is rumored to offer backward compatibility.

2025

Like all rumors, this one should be taken with a degree of skepticism, even though the claim that multiplePokemongames are in the works at any given time sounds well within the realm of possibility. Riddler_Khu, for their part, has a longtrack record of legitimatePokemonleaks, although their credibility did take a hit in recent years. That’s largely because they have repeatedly suggested that Generation 5 remakes are coming in 2024, which no longer seems like a possibility.

If their latest claim is accurate, and assumingLegends: Z-Ais one of the three games mentioned, then the hypothetical Generation 5 remakes could still be part of the greenlit project group. Game Freak may ultimately be gearing up to releaseLegends: Z-Aand the Gen 10 games in the first and final quarters of 2025, respectively, much like it did withPokemonLegends: ArceusandScarlet and Violetin 2022.
