Whilefresh looks and locker decorationshave a lot of fans excited, a brand-new special weapon is also joining the fray. The Super Chump was previously teased but unnamed, leaving fans wondering if it would be a bomb or a special weapon. Now, the dev team has detailed how it works. When a user’s special charge meter fills up, they can deploy the Super Chump, which fires a series of blue bomb-like decoys with smiling faces all over the targeted area. After a set period of time, the Super Chump decoys all explode, dealing damage to anyone in the area and spreading the player’s ink.

The Super Chump decoys can be exploded by enemy players who target them, though in the midst of battle, a few moments of occupying a set area may be all it takes to turn the tide of the fight, especially in modes like Splat Zones. Perhaps most interesting is that these bombs are intended to distract and confuse enemies. When fired, the Super Chump decoys show the same indicators as a player would whenusing their Super Jump. Super Jumping players are often splatted upon landing, so using this special could help to mask their arrival or keep them safe when they do land.

At the moment, the Super Chump special has been announced for two new weapons: The N-Zap ‘89 and Clash Blaster Neo, which will utilize Autobombs and and Curling Bombs as their secondaries, respectively. Several other weapons are receiving new variants as well, including the Sploosh-o-Matic, Tri-Slosher, Rapid Blaster, and others, though their full kits have yet to be announced. Between Super Chump decoys andKraken Royale, players will need to keep their wits about them following the update as they adapt to these new weapons, whether they’re using one themselves or being targeted by them.

Splatoon 3is available now for Nintendo Switch. Fresh Season arrives March 1.
