Summary

Mercy mains have found a way to exploit the healer’s Guardian Angel ability, which is causing headaches for opponents inOverwatch 2.The eighth season ofOverwatch 2,titled Call of the Hunt, is currently underway and has added a wilds-themed battle pass, the Battle of the Beasts limited-time mode, and new Tank hero Mauga.

Supports incredibly important inOverwatch 2, as they are necessary to keep the team alive. As such, support heroes are often high value targets for opposing teams. Because of this, many ofOverwatch 2’s support heroesare equipped with abilities that serve as either a means of escape or a way to stay mobile in the face of the enemy’s frontline. Heroes like Kiriko and Moira have escape methods like Swift Step and Fade that let them disengage when overwhelmed. One of the more popular support heroes, Mercy, has an ability called Guardian Angel that sees her quickly dash towards a nearby ally. Hitting the crouch button during a Guardian Angel dash will let her “Super Jump” into the air, letting her temporarily gain a better vantage point over the fight, along with added aerial movement.

It seems someOverwatch 2Mercy playershave found a way to circumvent the Super Jump’s extra 1.5 second cooldown. On the Competitiveoverwatch subreddit, SammyIsSeiso posted a short clip inOverwatch 2’spractice range of Mercy’s Super Jump immediately recharging when the player cancels Guardian Angel at the exact moment they hit crouch to initiate the Super Jump. Performing this maneuver allows Mercy to dart back up into the air every three seconds, becoming a nightmare for opponents trying to rid her from her team.

It’s clear that Mercy’s Super Jump isn’t intended to be used this way. It’s already difficult for opponents to track her down as she darts around to her teammates with normal use of Guardian Angel, but when she’s able to jump up into the air every three seconds without ever touching the ground, it’s easy to see how opposing players could become frustrated. With howtuned into the community theOverwatchteam is, it would be safe to assume that this is a known issue at Blizzard, and that a fix is hopefully on the way.

As for what’s next forOverwatch 2, itsannual Winter Wonderland event is set to begin soonon December 19. The event will bringOverwatch 2’s first ever event pass, where players will be able to earn tickets to spend on a number of holiday-themed cosmetics. Perhaps a fix to Mercy’s Super Jump exploit will come as part of the Winter Wonderland update. If not, it’ll likely come sometime after the start of the new year, maybe as part of a mid-season update.
