Gotham Knightsindividual character spotlights have lately delved into how gameplay looks for each playable member of its Bat Family. Nightwing, Robin, and Batgirl have all been portrayed now with eclectic suit selections and unique means of traversal, and Red Hood is the final character fans are waiting to see more of in the last couple of months beforeGotham Knightsreleases at the end of October.

In the meantime, bits ofGotham Knights’ more intimate narrative momentshave also debuted. A while back, players were offered a quick look at a cutscene whereDick Grayson and Jason Todd reflect on Bruce Wayne’s deathin the Belfry, the team’s official headquarters. It is here in the Belfry where characters will interact with one another out of costume, and is likely where players will see the most heartfelt moments shared between characters. Indeed, the latest Belfry cutscene has recently been shared and offers a look at the dynamic between Barbara Gordon and Dick.

Gotham Knights' latestcutscene opens with Dick and Barbara exercising together in the Belfry in front of equipment and a Gotham Goliaths poster. Dick is noticeably quiet and this urges Barbara to encourage him to speak his mind. Dick is distant and dismissive until Barbara prods him into talking by bringing up Bruce, whose looming presence still weighs heavily on Dick as he feels a responsibility to amount to him. It is also here that Barbara reveals she and Dick had been in a past romantic relationship, but that they have since separated.

Their separation seems to have at least been amicable due to them speaking and working well with one another, but that could also potentially be due to the fact that they need to come together, putting aside their own differences in order todefend Gotham in Bruce’s absence. Barbara also makes some funny nods to source material references, such as “flaky cereal,” and continues a running gag about Nightwing’s best asset.

But Barbara’s most sentimental contribution to the conversation is reminding Dick that he is not an island, and that he has the rest of the Bat Family to rely upon too, before the two embrace. Dick and Barbara may have the most salient and storied relationship of any characters inGotham Knights’ Bat Family, even besides having a romantically charged past. It will be interesting to see how this dynamic develops throughoutGotham Knightsand how other characters interact when inside the Belfry.

Gotham Knightsis scheduled to release on October 25 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
