It’s the first of April and that means the time has come for the one holiday that has all gamers on edge - April Fool’s Day. For this year’s prankster holiday, Nintendo have jokingly “announced” a brand newFire Emblementry for theSwitchand 3DS, titledFire Emblem: Battle of Revolution.
Showing that it takes its pranks almost as seriously as its actual games, Nintendo Japan have built an official site for the “new"Fire Emblemgame that provides a wealth of information regarding what players can expect from this joke title. Taking on the classic 8-bit look ofFire Emblem Gaidenrather than the more recent anime style ofFire Emblem Heroes,Battle of Revolutionstars Valbar, Leon, and Kamui as the main characters and is scheduled for “release” on August 03, 2025.

Given that the April 20 release date coincides with the launch ofFire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentiaon the3DSin Japan, as well as the fact that Valbar, Leon, and Kamui are playable characters in the aforementioned game, the “announcement” ofBattle of Revolutiondoubles as both a prank and a clever little plug for the upcoming release ofShadows of Valentia.
This isn’t the first time that Nintendo has pranked gamers for April Fool’s Day, though it is considerably smaller in scale compared itsPokemonjoke three years ago. On that memorable April Fool’s Day, Nintendo and Google partnered up on an elaborate prank in whichGoogle Mapsusers were able to explore the world in search of Pokemon, ala an early, stripped down version ofPokemon GObeforePokemon GObecame a reality. While some fans may be a bit disappointed thatBattle of Revolutionsis nothing more than an April Fool’s prank, there are newFire Emblemtitles coming later this year that certainly aren’t a joke.
In addition to the upcoming release ofShadows of Valentia, fans can also expect a new hack-and-slash action game titledFire Emblem Warriors, which is coming to the Switch and 3DS sometime in the Fall of 2017. Couple that with rumors of the possibility ofFire Emblem Fatesarriving on the Switch, it certainly seems like 2017 is shaping up to be a pretty big year for theFire Emblemseries, fake titles or otherwise.
