As manyMortal Kombat 11fans know, the series has been home to many Easter eggs throughout the years. Even recently, fans have discovered a newEaster egg inMortal Kombat 11DLCthat showcases Batman as part of the Elseworlds skin pack.

ThoughMortal Kombat 11came out two years ago, the game is still dishing out new surprises, such as the possibility of a new secret character. In theMortal Kombat Trilogy, there was a secret character named “Aqua,” who was a blue color palette swap of Scorpion. However, instead of Scorpion’s iconic mask, Aqua wore a duckbill.

Gamers have discovered that whenever the “Master of Cold” dark blue skin for Sub-Zero is picked with a hoodie and a belt, the mask will turn yellow. The mask is typically blue for Sub-Zero, even though it still shows up as yellow in the icon for the alternate skin. At the moment, it is unclear if this is intentional or just a glitch inMortal Kombat 11, but it does appear to lean toward intentional since it matches the rest of the outfit.

The lore behind Aqua, for those who don’t know, is that Aqua is often referred to as thesecret character of theMortal KombatTrilogy. In actuality, he is a canceled character who has not had any involvement with the series since. NetherRealm Studios has snuck in other hidden characters in the past, such as Reptile and Noob Saibot, with them even being fully incorporated into some games later on.

Other Twitter users are suggesting the yellow mask could be a possible color inversion that NetherRealm Studios implemented for particular character skins. Since there are plenty ofMortal Kombat 11alternate skinsfor all characters, this point does have some credibility. However, neither NetherRealm Studios nor WB Games have commented on the situation to clarify the matter.

The argument could also be made that the Aqua Easter egg should conceivably be hidden in one of Scorpion’s alternate skins, since that was who he was originally was based on. However, Sub-Zero’s color is naturally blue, and it would seem less obvious for people actively trying to find the secrets for the game. Either way, this appears to be a fun way to remember the history ofMortal Kombat, and hopefullyseries creator Ed Booncan try to figure a way for Aqua to be more involved in the future.

Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimateis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
