Mortal Kombat 11game director Ed Boon recently appeared on theVic’s Basementpodcast to discuss the game and its recently-releasedAftermathexpansion. During the fascinating 25 minute long conversation, host Victor Lucas asked Boon about what he hears the most from franchise fans, and his answer may not be all that surprising.

According to Ed Boon, the thing he hears the most fromMortal Kombat 11fans is “We want Mileena.” Boon elaborated that, “It’s nice to have such a ridiculously persistent fanbase that fortunately, or unfortunately, they know that we listen, they know that we’ve responded at times. So some of them feel emboldened to say, ‘Well, I’m just gonna ask a hundred thousand times until I get my way.”

For the uninitiated, thelack of Mileena inMortal Kombat 11has been a hot topic since before the game even launched. After the developers released a video of Kitana with Mileena’s moves, it became apparent to fans that Mileena wasn’t going to be in the new game. This caused quite an uproar in theMortal Kombat 11community, and Ed Boon has stoked the fires since, trolling Mileena fans at every opportunity on social media.

Unfortunately for Mileena enthusiasts, it is increasingly unlikely that she will ever actually be inMortal Kombat 11. TheAftermathexpansion added three new DLC characters, and nothing else has been announced since then in terms of a properKombat Pack 2or if the game is getting more DLC at all. With next-generation consoles on the horizon, it could be that NetherRealm would rather focus on new products instead of continuously pumping out DLC characters forMK11.

In fact, Ed Boon teased afuture NetherRealm Studios projectduring the interview with Victor Lucas. Apparently, NetherRealm is hard at work on a game that fans won’t see for years, indicating that it will likely be built for next-generation platforms like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Boon didn’t elaborate on the project, but it could be anything from the nextMortal KombattoInjustice 3to a brand new IP.

Out of all the possibilities, anInjustice 3game seems the most likely, but with AT&T potentially selling off its game division, it’s unclear if something like that could ever really materialize. Fans will just need to wait and see what happens on that front.

Mortal Kombat 11is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
