Summary
By most accounts,Mortal Kombat 1had a pretty great roster to begin with. With 22 playable fighters in total,Mortal Kombat 1’s base rosterlived up to the rest of NetherRealm’s recent entries, and the game’s mix of classic series staples and lesser-known 3D-era fighters helped to really make it stand out when compared toMortal Kombat Xand11. With a slew of new Kameo Fighters joining the battle,Mortal Kombat 1’s roster gave players plenty of room to experiment. But whileMortal Kombat 1’s roster was already good from the get-go, it’s only going to get better with age.
Mortal Kombat 1first confirmed its DLC plans two whole months before the game even came out, but it ended up being quite the smart decision on NetherRealm’s part. Though Quan Chi, Ermac, and Takeda will be nice additions to the roster, it was Omni-Man, Peacemaker, and Homelander that really convinced the masses to pre-orderMortal Kombat 1’s Premium Edition, and now those eager fans are enjoying the DLC’s gradual release. Homelander is set to hitMortal Kombat 1in the Spring of next year, but already there’s a pretty sizable obstacle in its way.

Mortal Kombat 1’s Homelander Voice Actor Has a Big Challenge to Overcome
Mortal Kombat 1’s Homelander Won’t Be Voiced by Antony Starr
Back whenMortal Kombat 1’s DLC was first announced, many fans theorized that all three guest characters would be voiced by their usual actors, mostly due to just how iconic their respective portrayals were. To many fans, there can’t be anOmni-Man without J.K. Simmons, a Peacemaker without John Cena, or a Homelander without Antony Starr. While many fans were skeptical of this due to NetherRealm’s history with actors like Arnold Schwarzenegger not reprising their iconic roles forMortal Kombatguest characters, many hoped that the same wouldn’t be the case this time around.
Fans seemed to breathe a sigh of relief whenHomelander made a major appearance inCall of Duty: Warzoneback in July, where he was voiced by Antony Starr. Many fans took this video game appearance as a sign that Starr would almost definitely be voicingMortal Kombat 1’s Homelander, and it was just Peacemaker and Omni-Man left up in the air.
In a strange turn of events, however, Antony Starr is now the only one of the three who isn’t reprising their role forMortal Kombat 1. J.K. Simmons came back to voice Omni-Man forMortal Kombat 1’s first DLC fighter pack, and against all odds, John Cena is confirmed to be lending his voice and likeness toMortal Kombat 1’s Peacemaker. But for some unknown reason, Antony Starr will not be playingMortal Kombat 1’s Homelander.
Mortal Kombat 1’s Homelander Voice Actor Has Big Shoes to Fill
Over three seasons and four years,The Boys' Homelander has become one of themost iconic supervillainsin modern comic history. And whileThe Boys' extremely talented writers should take a lot of credit, Antony Starr is the one who brings it all to life, making the character one of the best love-to-hate characters on TV.
No one could play Homelander quite as entertainingly unhinged as Antony Starr, and his bevy of unique mannerisms and voice intonations aren’t so easily replicated, puttingMortal Kombat 1’s eventual Homelander voice actor in an incredibly tough spot. Even ifMK1’s Homelander sounds great, many fans might not be overly impressed regardless due to Starr’s lack of involvement, and that could cause issues later down the line.
