Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s Season 3 is looking quite promising so far, with a number of beloved characters, maps, and skins making an appearance alongside four all-new weapons, the last of which has only just been revealed. The game’s fictionalized variants of real-world weapons aren’t completely true-to-form, but they do bear more than a passing resemblance to the real deal, with this trend bound to continue in Season 3, too.

While the introduction of the classic M200 Intervention sniper rifle through the FJX Imperium weapon platform will be particularly thrilling to franchise veterans, other Season 3 weapons, such asModern Warfare 2’s Cronen Squallbattle rifle, have been a much bigger surprise. Alongside FJX Imperium and the Cronen Squall, Infinity Ward has also shown off the silhouette of the third new entry, which is going to be a fictional variant of the Intratec TEC-9, but the fourth weapon has been a total mystery up until now.

What’s particularly curious is that the mysterious fourth weapon may, in fact, be a reworked variant of an existingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2pistol: the .50 GS or the Desert Eagle. According to the official JapaneseCODTwitter account, this sidearm is supposed to be the “Automatic .50 GS,” which is corroborated further by the official Season 3 blog post. There, Infinity Ward explained that the fourth unrevealed weapon would be a “high-caliber pistol modified for full-auto,” which certainly fits the bill for an automatic Desert Eagle firearm.

Admittedly, adding a full-auto Deagle is a bit strange unless the weapon is a substantial retrofit of the baseline pistol. Whereas weapons such asCall of Duty’s most iconic sniper rifleadd a bunch of hype to the content release they’re a part of, this is much more of a niche offering. Moreover, this means that the automatic .50 GS will launch ahead of other franchise classics, such as the revered M1911 or, say, a 92FS variant.

Whatever the case may be, a full-auto.50 caliber sidearm isn’t likely to substantially affect theWarzoneandDMZ meta inModern Warfare 2’s Season 3. Instead, it’s possible that the weapon will specifically dominate in close-quarters combat, which is usually the purview of the classicCODMultiplayer modes, such as Team Deathmatch, Free-For-All, and Headquarters, just to list a few.

Finally, it’s worth considering the possibility that the listing of an automatic Desert Eagle is some sort of mistake. This information hasn’t yet been shared via other, English-speakingCODchannels, and it may be the case that a wholly different weapon may be in tow, instead. Whatever the case may be, Season 3’s offerings imply that therumored 2023 DLC forModern Warfare 2now has one less fan-favorite weapon to feature.
