After months of waiting,Minecrafthas finally revealed the name of its long-awaited 1.20 update. The update is already available in Beta forMinecraftplayers to try out ahead of its official release date which is currently unannounced.

ConsideringMinecraftwas first released in 2011, Mojang’s dedication to updating the game is commendable. In anindustry filled with live-service games, it has been all too common recently for developers to drop support for games soon after their release. But Mojang has not only managed to support the game, but it has also resisted the urge to cash in with a quick sequel, which would almost certainly rake in huge amounts of money. The timelessness ofMinecraft’s gameplay is a huge factor. The developer got it right the first time, and there’s no need to try to reinvent the wheel.

The name of the update was revealed on the officialMinecraftwebsite, and was confirmed to be titled “Trails & Tales.” According to the developer, “the name represents the journey thatMinecrafttakes us on,” so it is assumed the name is intended to evoke the general theme of the update. So far, the update promises to be one of the biggest yet for the game, withMinecraft1.20’s addition of archaeologypromising to change the way players explore the world. Other additions include the new cherry blossom biome, armor trimming, and multiple new mobs, among other smaller features. Hopefully, there are plenty of other surprises awaiting players when it finally releases.

Despite what is announced to be coming toMinecraftin the near future, work continues on projects that aren’t yet officially announced at Mojang. A recentleak revealed that aMinecraftworld editoris in development for theBedrock Editionof the game, but like the 1.20 update, it has no timeframe for release. With the size of the “Trails & Tales” update, it’s likely that this world editor still has a way to go until release, with Mojang’s resources taken up elsewhere.

The next few months are shaping up to be huge forMinecraft. With the 1.20 update finally releasing, the original game will receive a new batch of content that could keep players busy until the next huge update. As well as this, the upcoming release ofMinecraft Legendspromises to bring strong PvP combatto the series, which is a feature that is barely touched upon in the original game. While players waiting forMinecraft 2will probably remain disappointed for some time to come, there’s still plenty for fans of the franchise to enjoy in 2023.
