Of course, that’s not the only bit of scuttlebutt regarding the title, and other rumors about the sequel make it seem as if Capcom definitely has the game in the works, despite the company not having openly acknowledgedDevil May Cry 5’s existence.
Aside from the aforementioned gameplay and story details leaking online–which could have easily been fabricated by anyone–one of the more recent rumors includedDevil May Cry 5being announced at PlayStation Experience 2017 alongsideSoul Calibur 6, which at least points toward the former being in the works. After all, the sixth installment in the iconic Bandai Namco fighting franchise went on to be revealed, showing thatthe Redditor “DasVergeben” who started the PSX rumorat least had some credible sources.
Of course,Devil May Cry 5didn’t actually go on to make an appearance at PSX 2017, but that could have been due to countless issues that caused Capcom to rethink its strategy of unveiling the game at the annual PlayStation event. For instance, the publisher and developer might have decided at the last minute to wait for E3 2018 instead in order to allow for a much bigger audience to seeDMC 5when it gets revealed. Or perhaps the potential title will be multi-platform, and Capcom reasoned that its debut at a Sony function would’ve rubbed other potential partners the wrong way.
Then again, the Redditor who got the tip thatDevil May Cry 5would be at PSX 2017 could have intentionally been given some bunk information to muddy the waters and make it that much more difficult to trace the correct details aboutSoul Calibur 6back to the original leaker. Be that as it may, “DasVergeben” has been attached to several major leaks involving other games that ended up coming true, as the Redditor previously outed theTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coming toInjustice 2.
All things considered, there’s no way to concretely determine whether or notDevil May Cry 5is in development at this point in time until Capcom officially pulls the curtain off of the project.
